Ohm meter trouble

Recommended Posts

 So I got me a manual, and read up on how to check conectivity on the stator, switch and coil. Got a cheap ohm meter, got mad at it, and got the digital one. But they both came up reading as "open" when I did the check on my stator, kill switch, and coil.

The clymers manual reads that the stator should read around 0.26-0.34, with the meter set at at R 1k. Problem is I don't see a "R" setting and I tried all the setting on the ohm side with simaliar results. I went back to the good ol fashion wire test light, and got it to light up when I kicked her over, but no spark through the coil. I aint no electrician, so any help would be awesome!!

I just added:

Adjustable timing plate with stator

stage 2 rev box from dragonfly ent.

wiring harness from an 02 with e-brake, tors removed

new ign. switch

The flywheel is good and magnetized, gap on pickup coil is set, timing at 0.

does your meter have multiple places to put the wires? the black to common, and the red one to the v/ohm. touch the wires together and see of you get 0.00-0.05 ohms

Ditto, depending on the meter they all work a little different. Post a picture of it and we can help you out.

Make sure the wires going to the coil are on there nice and tight.

When your testing the switches make sure they are closed or else your meter will show an open circuit (I know thats pretty elementary, just thought I would mention it)

If that is ok I would start with ohming the stator.

Most cheap meters are auto ranging and will not read down low on the set scale so you need a meter you can set to the lower R1 scale.

A meter that says RK1 is up to 1000 ohms but probably will not read down to less than 100 ohms. In a nut shell auto ranging meters are a pain in the ass.

Thanx again
