gauging interest in custom graphics

my boy is thinking of buying a vinyl cutting machine, and starting a buisness doing graphics, custom stickers etc. he can do complete grahpics kits, or you can send in your own designs. is there anyone else here doing this, i didnt think so since the bullshit chase pulled. i need to get some graphics for a bike im doing, so everyone can see how one of the designs will look. check pg 3 of this thread.

this guy is 100% reliable unlike chase, and gets shit done on time, so fulfilling orders wont be a problem. he wanted me to find out if there is an interest in this, before he slaps down all the cash for the cutting machine.

Hell yeah bro... i've actually been looking for a place to make some custom graphics.. what would something like that cost? ball park?

i think its a good idea but it will be hard to compete with already out there graphics. It will eventualy start making you money but you will have to wait for it. I was toying of the idea aswell but instead just design the graphics and then take my design to the vinyl cutter.

I just have to find or create a template for the banshee.

 

what do you rekon a full graph kit will be worth ?

the expensive part will be the uv protective vinyl and inks.

 

atleast when you have the machine you can design and make anything for everything and broaden your production.

To do a basic outline graphics kit, which is like the 2 big banshees for the fenders, 2 big yamahas for the gas tank, twin 350 and 6peed for the middle, and some small yamahas and tuning forks would be like 40. I think that's a good price, I have bought a lot of these outline type of kits on ebay, but the guy who was selling them is not a registered user. Do you guys just like the fancy like duncan or n style kits, or the more oem plain outline kits?

My buddy works for a sign company and does these decals for his work.

 

I took a tour of the facility a few weeks ago and he was giving me all sorts of info on the machines that make the decals.

(one machine costs $125,000 bucks ) it does the 3m process decals at full color high resolution.

 

Thats one hell of a start up cost for a small business to absorb up front.

After looking at all the costs of the supplies involved with it I will have his company do some rather than consider my mediocre art skills at going out and buying the $40,000 software package that goes with the machine.

 

Another thing to consider.

 

If you cannot compete with the high resolution imaging of the expensive computer driven machines then business would likely suffer in the long run.

he wasnt planning on doing the full high res color ones, just the single color outline graphics, like what i have on my 97.
