manny 2004 banshee
recently i went to the desert and my quad f&@ked up. It started backfiring but would still run perfectly. So when i got back i cleaned out the air filter, i noticed the slide on the carb was stuck and i fixed that, i cleaned the carbs like 3 times and then i tried to turn it on again. It would turn on only after a few times of trying to roll start it, and it wouldn't backfiring but it sounded like there were air bubbles because it wouldn't pop it would just sound like a jet flew by. Then it would turn off if i didn't have it in high rpms. So i thought it was the tors and i replaced those, but i didn't get the tor elimination kit. After that i tried to turn it on, and it hasn't turned on since. Can anybody give me ideas of what could be the problem please!??!?!?! I am really getting irritated by this and i can't seem to find the problem. I cant afford to take the bike to the shop because Im only 14 and dont have much money. Please help, Thanks ::

NitroTate
First and foremost (and most importantly) stay calm... If you get all worked up you will most likely miss something simple and then be kicking yourself in the ass later for it. Check all the "common sense" things first; (even if you think they are correct!) >Carb slides in correct? (slanted cutout on the slide should be showing out the backside of the carb (intake) >Carbs in sync? >Airflow restrictions? >Fuel restrictions? >Fuel on, good gas, full gas >Plug wires loose or bad? >Clamps on front of carbs (at the intake boots) tight? >Intakes/Reeds tight? Can't think of any others off the top of my head right now. If these are all good, you might need to go deeper and do some of the following; >Check Compression >Clean Carbs out real good >Pull your reeds and make sure there aren't any broken or badly gapped ones. (this can sometimes cause bad running like you are) >Pull stator cover and make sure flywheel and pickup coil are in good condition and tight. >Get it running and have someone keep on the gas to keep it running, spray carb cleaner around the motor in places like the head, reeds, etc. anywhere you could have an air leak. If the motor stumbles when you spray you have an air leak there. Hopefully that helps get you moving in the right direction. Tate

Tate any other suggestions because i checked all those and they seem fine
NitroTate
You checked all of that already and found nothing? What was your compression?

NitroTate
Ok so then go ahead and have your dad do the other things. Hopefully someone else chimes in here but it almost seems like an air leak to me the way you describe it so you'll need to really look for leaks and if possible do a leakdown test. There are plenty of how-to threads on here to learn how to do a leakdown but that could tell you immediately if it's an air leak. Keep in mind air leaks cause a lean condition that could result in a blown motor.
manny 2004 banshee
alright my dad showed me how to check the compression and it was at 105 psi
NitroTate
alright my dad showed me how to check the compression and it was at 105 psi Getting a little low so you are getting close to needing a new top end but that probably isn't your problem at this point but it's good you checked. Now you need to probably focus on air leaks.
manny 2004 banshee
i know there is a way to make air leak testers on the forum but, is there a site or something that you could buy one off of?
manny 2004 banshee
would it matter if one of the tors was kind of loose. Maybe air could escape from there. But i cant tighten it because then it would get in the way of the air box cover. Would you suggest i get the tor elimination kit
