nitrousbaby
yea I checked the squish last night on this thing .50 I have not done a leak down test on it for him yet. but all the imput you guys are throwing at us sure is gonna help most of it like gutting the cap I would have never thought of I thought that was a alky thing ,Im stumped on this thing. seems like 120 psi .50 squish it should damn near run on water lol but Im thinking maybe next step is to drop the timing down to zero and see what happens. I dont know?
shanYE west
A leak down should be the first thing done. If its got a air leak.. you'll be like a dog chasing its tail.
KEVSWS6
I agree, start with the timing plate.

BigRed350x
I've seen setups with excessive piston - cylinder wall clearance cause a light vibration in the cylinder and rattle out plugs. Something else you might check next time you have the head off or cylinders off.
dlnoss
What timing plate are you using?
KEVSWS6
He has a Chariot timing plate. Piston to wall clearance is .003 from me just a few weeks ago. But should be checked with the rest of the stuff.
KlotzBanshee
I have a friend that had a similar problem with his banshee. He racked his brain for weeks before figuring out that he had water in the gas. He dumped the gas out of his tank into a bucket and could see water at the bottom once it settled. Something to think about.
Detroit Muscle
Okay well here's an update for every1. We tried a few things tonight before it got dark and I think we finally made some progress. First we did a leak-down test using a tester we made exactly like the one in the sticky, and it didn't leak any air at all, even sprayed everything with soap/water just incase it was a tiny tiny leak. Then we set the timing to 0* from the +5* it was at. Took it up and down the road like that first, and it seemed improved, although sounded lean. We decided to drop the needle all the way to the bottom clip(was in the center) to richen it up a lot. Rode it like that as well and it seemed to be even better, though after a few rips up and down the street the mid-range throttle felt increasingly spongy, then we clean itself out when the powerband hit but would then sound lean again on the top. Currently it has 170 mains, DGK needle set at the bottom, air screw 2 turns out. Going to try 175 mains tomorrow I think to see what happens. Any ideas on the jetting??? nitrousbaby
everything is telling me this is too rich but if you guys seen the plugs you would agree this bike is lean on top. Hopefully this helps
dajogejr
Ignition all check out? You sure there's no coolant leaking into the cylinder, possible pinched oring in the head, etc.?
wesw
so did you raise the needle all the way or lower it take you raised it 5th clip well you need to realize that that circuit carries over to the main and your adding more fuel to it. i think you should be in the 155-165 main range or less. what are your plugs telling you. 2strokespirit
I say your CDI is the problem, they can get "stuck" in advance, I had that problem in the past, it was one massive headache... If that's not it, you're leaking coolant into the combustion chamber, did you check your coolant level recently??? maybe very very slow leak that you won't even notice?? Still I think you're having CDI problems... That's why the 170 still looks "off" you do not have "proper" combustion...
Detroit Muscle
I realize the needle carries over into the main... and we richened it up all the way. Needle is on the bottom clip and the plugs are still dry and lean looking when we pull them out after a few passes down the road.

This is no more a jetting issue...
