Dome Size Question

Recommended Posts

so my old engine is sold, and my new engine is on the way. the discription reads, "engine was rebuilt a few years ago, it was a stock rebuild with the exception of Wiseco pistons "

im about to order myself a new set a coolheads made by fireball racing, but my question is they are only offering 18 and 20 cc domes. im only about 500 feet above sea level, and think i should be running 19cc domes, but im looking for some input.

i purchased a billet impeller, and will have a 200watt stator set at +4 and for fuel i go to my delta sonic (for any of you western ny'ers who know what im talking about) and get 100 octane race fuel.

so what do u think, are 18cc domes to small?

This is the first I've heard of Fireball Banshee heads. There's been a bunch of Banshee heads come and go over the years. I don't know if their head uses a proprietary dome size or something standard.

If you will be running pump gas, the 20cc may be too small.

Is that the coolhead that's actually 2 seperate heads with cooling fins on it? One head for each jug, with a hose connecting them? If so, the concept is neat and different, but if you do any trail riding or offroading, you might reconsider. Those cooling fins will get clogged up with dirt and mud, and in turn make your head hold heat. You don't want that.

10-4. Big problems back in the day with air cooled bikes doing this and dying. Fins with water cooling is purely a looks thing. Just not practical for cooling.

In general, 18's are too small. If you just gotta have that head assembly get the 18's and have somebody competent open them up or just run higher octane fuel... At best and pretty much no matter what the rest of the overall set-up, 18cc domes and 100 octane fuel puts you spooky close to the edge.

IMHO anyway.

You could get the 20's and run lower octane fuel of course... Doesn't sound like your leaning that direction though.
