new banshee owner

Recommended Posts

Just bought an 88 banshee today for $950, it's all stock except for tors removal kit and twist throttle. Just had top end rebuilt and it runs great, needs new wheel bearings and a-arm bushings. This is my first time riding a banshee and I was very impressed, very fast machine. I also own a yfz 450 and gonna take them both out tomorrow with a friend. I want to drag race tomorrow but don't know if I should because the banshee has just been rebuilt. Was curious to know how u guys broke in your banshee, did u ride it hard or take it easy.

Welcome to the HQ, yamaha rider. Congrats on the Banshee, they are definitley fun machines!

People have a lot of different opinions on engine break-in, from certain heat cycles, to going strictly by the owners manual.

I ran mine easy for about 4 or 5 tanks of fuel. Ran it at half throttle or less for a tank or two, then three quarter throttle or less for another couple of tanks. (ocasionally wide open bursts, but not holding it wide open for more than a couple of seconds) Also varying the throttle up and down, not keeping it at a constant rpm for too long.

After that I let it rip..
