yamaha rider Posted March 29, 2009 Report Share Posted March 29, 2009 Just bought an 88 banshee today for $950, it's all stock except for tors removal kit and twist throttle. Just had top end rebuilt and it runs great, needs new wheel bearings and a-arm bushings. This is my first time riding a banshee and I was very impressed,very fast machine. I also own a yfz 450 and gonna take them both out tomorrow with a friend. I want to drag race tomorrow but don't know if I should because the banshee has just been rebuilt. jamebo Posted March 29, 2009 Report Share Posted March 29, 2009 Welcome to the HQ, yamaha rider. Congrats on the Banshee, they are definitley fun machines! People have a lot of different opinions on engine break-in, from certain heat cycles, to going strictly by the owners manual. I ran mine easy for about 4 or 5 tanks of fuel. Ran it at half throttle or less for a tank or two, then three quarter throttle or less for another couple of tanks. (ocasionally wide open bursts, but not holding it wide open for more than a couple of seconds) Also varying the throttle up and down, not keeping it at a constant rpm for too long. byrdmanracing Posted March 29, 2009 Report Share Posted March 29, 2009 when i break my shee in i run 28:1 and do three heat cycles. drain the tank clean the carbs. then run 50:1 and balls to the wall. if its going to break then its going to break. i race and i always rebuild once a year to freshin up the motor. never had a problem yet.
