Loc
Ok I will give you the specs then the problem. 1999 Banshee -FMF Fatties, K&N Pods -310 mains, middle clip, 25 pilot (stock carbs, tors removed) -Airscrew 2 turns out -cleaned carbs -new plugs -compression is good -Temp 45 degrees and elevation is 1400 feet The bike will not start cold. If I spray a small mist of starting fluid or gas into the carbs it will fire up and run great (I know not the best Idea). There was oil/gas coming out the left pipe, I think that is fixed. Any help would be great. Yes I searched, found some help tried those things and it has brought me here. Thanks in advance
Sammy
27.5 pilots and 1 1/2 turns on the air screws. The larger pilot will help cold start. You may have to lean the clip out one notch.
Loc
Ok now I am confused. Went out this morning first kick and it started. There is alot of gas/oil mix coming out the left pipe.
Sammy
Is there a significant temperature difference between today and the last night you rode? More that say 10-15 degrees? Are you sure both air screws are set equally? Possibly trash stuck in the needle and seat or maybe a dead hole?
SonOfSand
Did you recently have the bowls off the carbs for any reason?
Loc
Yes I removed the bowls while cleaning the carbs
SonOfSand
Yes I removed the bowls while cleaning the carbs I think I know your problem, look on the front of bowls, on one bowl there should be a small metal bump sticking half way out, it is about the size of a BB. This bowl needs to be on the left carb if you are sitting on the quad. You put the wrong bowl carb, the choke wont work with out it, I just had the same problem an hour ago. LOL! Loc
I checked the bowls and they are on the correct side. I did notice out of the pipe that is leaking oil the exhaust is cold and the other side is hot.
Sammy
Check the cold side for spark.
C&B
Ok now I am confused. Went out this morning first kick and it started. There is alot of gas/oil mix coming out the left pipe. are you leaving the fuel on all the time? If so youre filling the crank with gas, thats why its a bitch to start. Loc
I turn the fuel off when it is not running. I pulled the plug and kicked it over and the plug had spark. I started the Banshee and unplugged the left cylinder and the idle smoothed out and almost seemed to run better. The bike now starts first kick every time.
