steeler2169
I want to make sure my carbs in sync. Do you need the tool or is there a procedure do with out the tool? If you need the tool where can you get it,and approx price Edited March 24, 2009 by steeler2169
shanYE west
The tool REALLY helps with setting the idle.. But you can set the slides pretty close by eyeballin it. I take the box out and that gives you a pretty good look in there. (if you have a air box)
Woolfman
I just took off my airbox and just set it so when I hit the throttle both slides move exactly the same time. I just measured slide height for the idle to make even at idle. Don't know if it's the best way but seems to work great for me.

If you need the tool where can you get it,and approx price The tool makes it easier but yes you can do it by eyballing, here is a link to my tutorial on it; They do this regardless if they are synched or not. No, they can begin moving at separate times if they are out of sync.

Michael Jackson
How? not sure how it works with the tors boxes on, but once you remove the tors, if the throttle cables are not adjusted evenly on top of the caps, its very very easy for one to be opening a split second before the other, the best way i found to do it, instead of really p ushing on the throttle hard, just tab it lightly, look somewhere in the middle of both carbs, dont focus on either slide, and stab the throttle , but not all theway, just keep tapping it, if you do it full stroke and fast you might not notice it, but if you tap it slightly you might hear or notice one going up and clapping back down even a fraction of an inch before the other one, or if you hit it light enough sometimes only one will be moving and the other one wont move a bit i gues the sync tool would be nice if you want them basically perfect, but you can get them pretty dam close by eye Edited March 24, 2009 by Michael Jackson

When you push the throttle both the slides move at the exact same time, whether or not one will hit before the other. If one hits the bottom before the other it just means they are out of synch. They are both hooked to the same throttle with one cable, hence they will move at the exact same time. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Correct me if i'm wrong. have you ever synced the carbs with the tors removed ? im having a hard time what you are saying, no offense meant the cable splits in the middle of course to two.. then they split to each carb cap, and down into the slide where they attach by means of a retaining clip. freeplay in the cable can be adjusted on top of the carbs, just like a clutch cable kind of, same idea, if one cable has more free play than the other,, they wont move together, one will be half way open while the other one is just starting its ascent up Edited March 24, 2009 by Michael Jackson

I can see how now because of that clutch cable type adjuster. Thanks for the knowledge

Thanks for the knowledge  get rid of that asap! that should be next mod on your list..about $40 to do.... inside those stupid boxes are multiple separate cables, each one has a chance to snap, its just stupid , one of those cables inside the tors box snapped when my shit was like 2 yrs old.. that sucked, thats just one of the many downfalls of the TORS, there alot, but thats a whole nother thread

If it works out i may have a set of carbs w/o tors that I'll trade for, if not i'll just get the kit.
