About how much is the max RPM of a banshee?

Recommended Posts

heya, about how much would a stock banshee do in max RPM... and also how much would just a piped/ filtered one like mine ( mods in sig) do, about 10k max? i was talking to a mate... and i mentioned (from a guess) i thought my shee does max max 9.5k rpm, he said nooo it can do 12k-14k

so... who is right? :P

also i felt a difference in max RPM when i modded it.. the 9.5k i mentioned was my guess with my mods

Your closer for a stock. A drag bike with a top end pipe will pull 10.5k-11.5k rpm absolute max usually.

Word.

Big stroke big bore motors won't even pull 10K.

Stock motors setup right with fuel and exhaust will rev to 10K, if that....but they won't "pull" to 10K, power will start falling off around 8.5 or 9 I'd say.

I'm not saying it can't do 12 to 14K...but that would take a TON of work and keeping it together would be another chore.

You can free rev a banshee to 10k, I dont recommend it with the stock cast pistons. But a 72mm and 68mm cub drag motor only makes power to about 10k-10.5K with some decent drag pipes. There is no way a stock motor, with stock pipes under a real load conditions will make it to 10k rpm.

If you can't get a big motor to overrev to 11k you have a setup issue.

A small bore banshee should be able to hit 12k without too much trouble.

Free revving with the bike in neutral or with the clutch in, yes. Riding it in gear and revving it to max rpm, I strongly disagree. I have seen very few fully built banshee motors turn those kind of rpm's on the dyno. Not to mention, just about any motor wont make max hp to the kind of max rpm's stated. I dont think you would want to rev one that high without some serious engine balancing and good parts installed as well.

 I didn't say free rev. I said overrev.

Overrev is an effect between combustion and pipe design. The more overrev a motor has the better it will perform as it increases the usable horsepower in the upper rpm range. Notice I said you can get a motor to overrev to 11k+. If you cant get a motor to make USABLE power up to, or 11+, then IMO you have a setup issue. Even my big twin makes power at 11k+. If you can't get a baby 350 to make 11k+...yikes.

You can disagree all you want. I have plenty of dyno sheets that prove the theory. Now, if you are talking a single cylinder, like a 250r, then yes, 8500-9500 is all they are good for, but not a twin.

Not sure what happened w/the quote??? No smartass either, just calling BS!

Snop, what I meant was your numbers are accurate IMO.

I am waiting for the Koolguy details so I too can increase my usable HP in the upper rpm range with more over-rev  I am assuming my combustion is screwed up  since my current bike makes no where near 11,000 rpm in the real world and my HP an torque dop like a rock in over-rev not long after making max HP.

Short of that, I would like whatever drugs Koolguy is using
