88-04banshee Posted March 22, 2009 Report Share Posted March 22, 2009 I finished installing yfz450 arms and shocks from a 2005 Friday night about midnight then woke up and headed to Glamis Saturday morning for the test ride and all i can say is WOW. (my noss tierods did not make it before i left so i was using the stock yfz which made me a little nervous because i only had a about 4-5 threads on there) i wish i would have done this this a long time ago my shee rides like a whole new quad. we went on some pretty fast dune rides and were hitting a lot of jumps and drop offs along the way and i never even came close to bottoming out not to mention how much control and more stable it felt. here is a picture before and after, *note* i had my front rims reversed on my stock set up so to make a fair comparison i took a picture with new arms the same way but will run them normal from now on.- i would like to thank all the bhq' guys that had threads on this that helped me do this mod it really helped. 88-04banshee Posted March 27, 2009 Author Report Share Posted March 27, 2009 I was looking at my bike last night and noticed my shocks are rubbing on both sides in the back against the upper a-arm ? what the hell has any one else had this problem or is it just me ? i dont know what i could have done differently i have not heard of this happening to any one else. maybe i will just try in put some washers to space it out ? From the threads I have read on this subject there has to be a spacer put in somewhere. Facetious Posted March 28, 2009 Report Share Posted March 28, 2009 The spacers are for the lower a-arm, not the upper. The uppers fit right in perfectly with the dust caps. I just ran into the same issue tonight. i just took the rear upper dust cap off and put a thin 1" OD washer in its place and put a smaller thin washer inside the front dust caps to make up for the space change. I just did the 450 conversion and got out to ride mine this last week and it beat the hell out of me . i started adjusting the shocks and found that to help alot still need to fine tune them. i still have to increase the spring tension and try it again . i'll be in winchester bay in june so i'll do some more adjusting then . Totally agree, with my SE shocks having high and low speed compression adjustment, I can really dial in my ride for the dunes at least. Ane believe me, our Oregon Dunes can get really rough with the moisture we accumulate! Peter, not sure if you were talking about poster's bike or mine, but mine is about to go big.
