DopeyTripod
What are the other benefits beside running a little cooler?? any hp?? reason I ask is a guy told me that he has one and it gives him 5 more hp. I laughed in his face and he was like ORLY??
locogato11283
you can change compression easily with them. helps keep the motor cooler. they look neat. fuck a pro design.. buy a NOSShead from dlnoss here on HQ. with the NOSS you dont have to change the cylinder studs. DopeyTripod
I have a cool head on mine allready. I just thought it was funny that he thinks it makes 5hp by bolting one on.
sheeman09
well it depends on the domes you have and it compliments pipes and porting or whatvers done to it and i would say that it could if you were running the right size domes
HiRoller
Adding a cool head to my bike (stock motor w/ the usual bolt-ons) made a noticeable boost in the low end.
njbanshee
Heat robs HP.
official_style
how much does it actually lower the temp?
blaster2006
Adding a cool head to my bike (stock motor w/ the usual bolt-ons) made a noticeable boost in the low end. is it true also that it also slightly benefits the top end too when you bump up the compression and leave the timing stock? i know that timing AND compression gets way more bottom end and tiny less top, and only cool head gives decent bottom end boost and alight top end aswell. sorry to ask a question on your thread but i hope it benefits both of us

Also what fuels your bike will also effect them. Cool head isn't the only head out there. The all do similar things.
dajogejr
The benefits of a cool head, any brand, is the ability to change domes if needed and using Orings to seal instead of a flat gasket. I'd like to see proof of a bike running cooler with any cool head. Actual proof not theoretical proof. Raising the compression will in fact give you a boost in low end and mid range...it will also make your bike run warmer. So...at that moot point...it's a performance mod, and they look very nice as well. I've run NOSS head in the past, Dave Noss is a great guy, builds nice products and will bend over backwards to help you. I run a Chariot head now (also a site sponsor) for two main reasons. Less Orings than a conventional aftermarket head, and looks (both the raised center look and very nice Chrome plating on it) Chariot are also made in Michigan, so helping a fellow guy from my state is nice as well. If the guy you were talking to said going from a stock head to the same cc (volume) dome in a cool had gave him more Horsepower, there's a boost bottle in his future. shanYE west
with a stock head your limited to dome configurations.. Builders have more options when their cutting from blanks.
dlnoss
The stock head was designed to be very forgiving on the type and quality of gas. Yamaha couldn't really sell a product that would detonate and grenade on regular pump gas in a 'stock' configuration. These were sold in countries where the fuel quality is even less than it is in the U.S. (I know it't hard to believe fuel quality is worse anywhere else) Anyway,,,,I design my domes to provide a performance increase even if the compression remains the same. Not 5 horsepower on the same compression,,,,I wish,,,but a better powerband that you can feel. -David
4stroker
i know a local dyno operator who changed nothing else but the head on a well set up banshee, and lost 2 hp going from a stock head with 20 thou off it to a pro design head with 20cc domes. a big name US builder has also told me pro design domes dont have a very good combustion chamber design and that noss are much better.
