w2banshee
Hallo this is my first time posting something on this great website.I've been reading all of your great stories for the last two years and got a lot of information that i used on my bikes.Me and my oldest son both got banshees. Both of them were the last built banshees, the yellow limited edition and the red falcon as it was called in south africa. My banshee is still stock except for long range tank,+2 steering stem, aftermarket handlebars and pro design airfilter. My sons banshee got fmf pipes, boost bottel, long range tank,+2 steering stem,v-force reed valves,+2 lonestar a-arms,pro design airfilter and some other stuff. Couple of rasons for me eventually got the nerves to write all of this. Firstly two strokes absolutely rocks. When i first got to ride quads about three years ago my first quad i bought for the family was a blaster and then i got a raptor 660.After riding the raptor for about three months i walked into a local yamaha dealer and i saw this awesome quad on the floor called banshee.I went back home and did some reading up on the banshee and the stuff i read about the banshee was just out of this world,so i went back and bought the yellow banshee for my son and brouht it home.I took the banshee for a spin on the farm and fell in love with it immediatly. The next week i trade my raptor in for a banshee as well and never ever been sorry i did it.I absolutely love my banshee and will never ride a four stroke again. My youngest son is riding a yz125 and i would like to ask one of you two stroke magicians out there a question regarding the yz please.I was riding my stock banshee for about a year and after i've put in my pro-design airfilter i drilled some holes in my air box and what a difference that made was awesome, now my question is can i drill some holes in the airbox of the yz as well. One can find a lot of information on this site about the banshee but i struggle to get some info on the yz. Thanks to all the people out their sharing all their information. I am struggling to upload pictures not very computer literate. As soon as i figure out how to i will post pictures. dragbanshee
Welcome! Glad you finally spoke up, no need to be shy. Don't know if your yamaha dealer has them or not, but you can get the filtered plugs for your airbox, 1" drill bit. Toomey sells them as a kit, my yamaha dealer sells them. You may want to go 1-2 sizes up on the main for the yz depending on how big or how many holes you drill.

w2banshee
Thank you for the welcome.Meaning to write for long time.Rather late then never.Like i said i've done alot of searching on this forum and if you search long enough you will get what you are looking for. Never had problems with my banshees.I;ve done a couple of races with my stock banshee and never had any problems.Me and my son are the only banshees racing in our local races and it is going very well. This season we are not racing to much money lol. I am going to try put some pic up on the next day or two for their is something that is not making sense on my banshee and hopefully one of you guys will be able to tell me what is wrong. I know that it is and old topic but shit this sport is very expensive. We get all our bling and other aftermarket parts from the good old usa and with the exchange rate by the time we get it it cost us a fortune, your price x10 and then postage and tax must also be added. Looking at all your cool bikes the last two years on this forum had me blue from jealousy. Thanks for the reply regarding the yz will definetaly look into it and will probebly ask some more questions later.First got to put in new pistons in the next couple of days and then i want to see what i must do regarding the holes in the airbox. I am trying to get the yz to go a little faster without compromising reliability. My youngest son is still racing this season and he is racing against the 250 4-stroke bikes and i can see that he is just not fast enough. I was thinking in putting on aftermarket pipe but a friend told me it is not worth the money, therefore i was thinking of doing other stuff like holes in the airbox to breath better and the sprockets. If their is any other good tricks you guys must tell me please. Thanks again

sleeper06
I ported my friends yz and what a diffrence,he races against the 4 pokes too, little compression, reeds. If you put holes in the box make sure you have a good filter,as it is with a closed box I clean his every week and its gross,The bike reacts well to a minor port job,If the cylinder is off might want to consider it.I have a crf250 4poke at my house rite now,my boys 125 eats it up
banshee_terror_
your no really gana change the reliability of the bike if you do to much. just make sure you do the right things. like i had an rm 80. it had .60 over bore,.30 shaved head,28mm kihen, boyson reeds, jeted out,fmf pipe, welded crank, timing advance, and it was ported and polished it doesnt sound like alot but it was alot of work done to an 80. plus with every thing else done to it i changed the sprockets out factory connection suspension.etc.etc.etc i never drilled out the air box though i never thought about it. but welcome. and dame cant belive you waited 2 years to say anything. maxtrax
Just as a friendly tip. If do you still have the boost bottle on your son's banshee. If you do, take it off. Just about everyone here will be able to tell you they don't do much but break/crack the intake boots. 2 Years without posting... wow! grizzly700
Welcom to the Hq. i would take off the boost bottle as well. why is exchange rate so much?
w2banshee
Thanks for the advise. I was thinking of doing a port job as well but getting somebody reliable were i am living to do it is a nother story. In previous posts that i've read on here it sounds like it is not anybody that can do a good port job. If i do a port job and reed valves without putting a aftermarket pipe will it be worth the excercise and if one do a port job with out the reeds will that also work. I am trying for hours now to try and upload photos.Hope it works.

w2banshee
Welcom to the Hq. i would take off the boost bottle as well. why is exchange rate so much? Yes read a lot of bad things about the boost bottle, will probably take it out some time soon. The guy that work on the engine said i must put on boost bottle. The thing with me is that i am totally a novice when it comes to working on the bikes to scared i do something wrong.I can change the plug and the tires and that is about it.Taking it to a mechanic all the time is costing me to much. I am probably not trying hard enough, will work on it. Yes the exchange rate is close to R10 to the dollar.I see you pay 3000-4000 dollars more or less if i remeber right for a new banshee.I paid R45 000 rand for my new banshee. My sons yz 125 cost me R43 000 last year,2009 model is gonna cost me now roughly R47 000 .To give you a better idea for a young guy that is starting to work in south africa with out qualifications he will be lucky to earn more than R5000 a month. My oldest son just finished school went to work for R3500 just to see if he likes the work. You can do the maths how long it will take him to be able to buy him a new bike or quad.So yes all the parts come from america and it cost us fortune to put aftermarket products on.Another reason is you get importers that imports the products and then sell it to the dealers wich sells it to us so two markups before we buy it.Some people try to buy direct from america to try and cut out the middle man.
