Took a couple quick pictures with the phone since the wife took the camera on vacation (my vacation now  ) Just threw some of the front suspension on. Still have to tighten it up and polish the shocks before putting them on.

I get my powder from Columbia Coatings and they call it Burnt Candy Translucent Orange. You put a chrome coat down first then the color and then I used clear over the top. The arms are just YFZ arms that I polished along with several other parts. It's really starting to look good. I still have to add a chain guide to the swing arm so I had to put the motor in so I can get things lined up. Had to put the side covers on to see what it will look like. Still waiting on Passion Racing to get my RZ cylinders back.

sweet! im gonna be doing this in a couple months! it looks sick! is it a hard conversion so far? what pipes are you using for it? do you just have to make new motor mounts and cut the exhaust and reweld it or is there more to this?thanks.

It depends how difficult you want to make it and how much $$ you want to spend. If you're just going to throw a banshee motor in the YFZ then it's not too difficult. You just have to make front and rear mounts, line up the sprockets, and do something with the exhaust which I haven't got to yet. I'm just going to modify my procircuits to fit.

I started this project the last week of December and have worked on it almost every weekend since plus several nights after work. I'm well over 100 hours and $3K into this. I rebuilt "everything" though. Every last nut and bolt was removed from this. From the motor to the calipers. Figured I'd do it right the first time. A lot of parts are used. No sense in buying new when I can make used look better than new.

  • 4 weeks later...

As a matter of fact I remembered to bring the camera to work today. Last weekend was a bitch in that Murphy's law was affecting everything I did. I had the topend together losely and had to take it apart because a piece of the power valve was broken and glue wasn't going to hold. Now I have to machine an end to fix it...blah....blah.... I'm sure I am going to have an ass load of problems once everything is together and it will take a couple trips to get everything ironed out. I just hope nothing too severe. Anyway, some new pics.

I'm still pissed about my powder coating job in that I didn't get great coverage in certain areas. It won't really be seen but still dissapointed. Some advice for others that may want to go into this much detail with a project like this, either don't do it or give yourself ALOT MORE TIME. It's riding season and I'm still going to be working on this thing for another 3-4 weeks. I've got well over 150 hours into this since the new year.
