tidos76
ok guys i have finished my dc conversion and got everything ready to go. right now i just zip tied the battery in just for placement to get the wires to a relatively close length. Now, i'm looking for ideas on a permanent mount for the battery. This must NOT require welding cause i'm not about to pay to repowdercoat my frame just to mount a battery. I like the design Snop made but i do not want the battery at they back, everything will be mounted and hidden under the front plastic. I have thought about trying to find or make a plastic "box" to fit this region of the frame and secure it in. Keep in mind, everything must fit, battery, cdi, and regulator/rectifier. Pics of your setup would be EXTREEMLY helpful. Thanks this is my temp setup. gotta love having 9823649 zip ties on your bike lol
Snopczynski
I dont have any ideas. There is no where to bolt anything in up there. I chose under the back seat because there are bolt in holes, and it basically would only make the bike think there was a slightly heavier rider on it. Best I can figure is you can drill holes in the frame, and tap them, then mount a tray to it. That reg/rec has to be grounded to regulate properly and dissipate heat. jayzx10r
If/when I do my DC conversion, I'm gonna mount the battery under the seat, just behind the filters. Sport bike manufacturers have been working hard on relocating weight to the center of their bikes lately...called "Mass Centralization" concept. It's a proven disign that works...ever drive a mid/rear engine sports car through a slalom?? I was given this example: Imagine picking up a barbell with the plates on the ends and trying to quickly rock the bar side-to-side. Slow moving. Now slide the plates to the center and try your side-to-side movement again. Waaayyy faster transition. Using that logic, the closer to the motor you can go, the better!! Over the rear shock/swing arm pivot is optimum. Adding all that weight over the front end is NFG!! Just my $0.02.
2001Stroker
I seen someone mount their battery right where yours is mounted. They used a KTM dirtbike battery box, and used those rubber incased metal conduit hangers. The ones that completely go around conduit, and have a single bolt hole. Hopefully you understand what the hell I'm talking about. I'm sure I made it more confusing than it really is.
Snopczynski
The setup I run isn't even noticeable. Being under the front plastic right there is gonna stick out more than mounting it in the back. People ride behind me all the time and have no clue that I run a battery.
