ferrari4756
Hey guys I have always had quads all my life, and know how to ride pretty good, but theh only quads I ever had were utility. Now, I really want a sport quad and just LOVE the banshees. I know that they are from 1987 (i think) and the technology may be outdated now. But what IS outdated on the quads compared to a new raptor? What makes a raptor better than an unmodded banshee (except engine size)? dirtydownunder
stock banshees have pretty crap suspention and there quite a bit narrower than the 450, the 450 looks better built aswell. but i still rather the banshee .
RagunCajun
Suspension is out dated. You can buy aftermarket a-arms/shocks. Banshees are only good for top end stuff. If you ride trails etc, dont get one.
locogato11283
you can buy a 2000 and up banshee for nothing these days. here in the midwest, you can find perfectly good running banshees with some mods for less than 2 g's. then youll still have money left over to do things to it that you wanna do. AKheathen
The technology isn't outdated. E.P.A. just doesn't like it.
ferrari4756
Okay thanks for all the replies!! So what I gathered is the only thing really outdated is the suspension right? And they also dont have a lot of acceleration compared to new quads such as raptors, YFZs and stuff like that. So now my question is: Can I upgraded a Banshee's suspension to be equal to a raptors or similar quad (by buying a arms and shocks)? If so, how much would that cost? And can I upgraded the motor (like bore it out or something) to have more acceleration? How much wold that cost? THANKS AGAIN!

THANKS AGAIN! the banshee is one of the most highly tuneable atvs, if not the most, on the market ever! u name it and it can be done to this thing, which is what attracts so many people to these. you can turn one into a full mx bike, a hillshotter, drag quad, dune rider, or even a desert racer, and everything in between. you will not regret purchasing one of these quads and hopefully u get bitten by the banshee bug liek the rest of us on this site. dragbanshee98
Okay cool. So now i realize it can be done. but for how much money is the questionn lol so how much would it cost to upgrade to a good suspension and to upgrade to get more bottom end (about that of a raptor)? the cost all depends on how extreme u want to go with the suspension. something simple like some yfz450 arms and different shocks can be relativly cheap prolly around a grand or prolly cheaper. but if u want to go all out and get like a leager/protrax setup it will run u a few grand. it all depends on how much u are willing to dish out. and as far as the motor goes, the banshee is very difficult to get torque out of, which is y alot of people say that if ur doin alot of like woods ridin to lean more towards 4-pokes. but it is possible to get a shee that is geared/modded towards the low end of the power band so u can get what u want Edited March 8, 2009 by dragbanshee98
bansheefreak
if you like a fat wallet i wouldnt get one... cus there make you addicting to mods real fast.. it never ends..
grizzly700
like dargbanshee said a banshee will never have the down low power of a 4-poke. u can upgrade front a-arms and shocks for about $700 and up. but if you mod a banshee right it will smoke most all 4strokes stock or modded.
deckheight
You might ride one before you drop the coin... Power delivery on a Banshee is totally different than a 4-stroke and can be a "religous experience"... Kind of like the difference between racing motocross (yehaw!!!) and riding a Harley on the open road (yawn...). I would quit rather than ride a 4-stroke for most types of riding. But thats just me. Michael Jackson
fuck all that 'u cant ride a banshee on the trails' bullshit...u can ride it anywhere u want..i ride mine in anything from tight woods to open feilds, and i love it all
ferrari4756
cool. so now I understand. I would only use my banshee for "track racing" like this track Quad Track Do you think a banshee with its stock gearing and with upgraded suspension would be good for this type of track? (with no other upgrades) Or do you think it would be wise to look at a differnt quad such as a raptor?
