SteelerBob
Hey guys, I am just getting back on a quad after almost 20 years off them. I am 40 and 6'2" and about 265lbs. and would consider myself an intermediate rider back in the day. Bought my nephews 99 banshee with FMF Gnarly Pipes, Cool Head (still trying to find out size from the original builder) a pretty aggressive port job, vforce 3 reed cage, K&N Proflow air system, not sure yet on bore. It seems run stronger than it should for relatively small amount of work done to it, so it may have more extensive mods I am not aware of. Like I said, still trying to contact the original builder who is known around tulsa as a banshee wiz, so I can find out what all he did to it. It is supposed to have been dyno'd at 73hp but I find that kind of hard to believe myself. It has stock wheels with ITP Holeshots on it right now and my nephew said they dropped the air in tires and slapped on a 17t front sprocket and stack rear 41, for last trip he took to Little Sahara with it and did pretty good there with the holeshots. I thought the 17t was extreme but he said it wouldn't hardly move with anything smaller, just sat and spun a hole. Anyway, I am restoring the girl and planning a trip out to little sahara ok in a month or so. I have only been there once many years ago on a 86 Quadracer 250 that was pretty much stock. I went with a pair of trail knobbies and let most of the air out and had a lot of fun. I am thinking about getting a set of rear paddles for the shee but don't want to drop an arm and a leg on a new set as with my family obligations I will still only make the trip a couple times a year. I am not into drag racing really, I like flat tracking and some hill climbing and bowl shooting. Just playing mostly. What would you all recommend I look for in a set of used or new economy tires/wheels? Size, number of paddles, brand etc. Bob
zachass9
IMO, on a play bike, I always ran 20x10x10 9 paddle extremes with no problem!! That was on a comparable set up, from the sounds of things (about 70 horses)! You wont be pulling them with a 17t front sprocket tho!! I would probably gear down to a 13 in the front for playing!! Another tire that my riding buddies run and really like are the sand stars. I am not super fond of them, but I run 22 inch tires on 8 inch rims!! I like to hook and go!! But for playing and sliding around, either of the two above choices would probably work for ya!! You could probably find something used pretty easy, either on here or local!! Where are you from? jjn56
Welcome Bob, nice to see some people close to my age on here and enjoying riding shee's. I'll be 36 next month and I ride at Little sahara also. My situation is almost the same as yours I get down there 2-3 time a year due to busy family life and it all just for fun and a good time with the cronies. As far as tires I have sand sharks with v-blades that are pretty cheap but skat traks are good also. Can't hardly beat Rocky Mountain ATV on prices and free shipping. SteelerBob
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Zachass9, I live in Sapulpa OK, about 10 miles SW of Tulsa. Been so busy working on the shee that I havent taken the time to fill out my profile. Need to take care of that asap. I was thinking about the 20x10x10 8 paddle extremes based on everything I had read so far, good to see I wasn't too far off. They aint cheap at all new but being pretty popular, should be able to find a used set. Jjn56, what part of SW Mizzou you from? I was born in Carthage and grew up around there and Miami ok. I've bin wanting to go ride mark twain,do u have to have spark arestors and registration ? Yeah, your "supposed to have" a registration, flag, spark arrestor, and slow moving vehicle sign, but I've rode several times without them and never ran into a conservation agent but I've heard of people who have and If she see's you then your busted. If your going to ride your shee there better have a full skid plate. It's very rocky and hilly terain with some mud in the bottoms, you can go around most of the mud if you want to, definetly have your airbox on if you go. I usually just ride my Honda Foreman when I go there.
