KaosBanshee44
I posted a thread a while back asking questions about certain hard drives to backup my iTunes music. Well i i got a 500gig external drive and works great i figured out how to use it pretty quick. Now here comes my question I'm wanting to use my external drive as my primary source for storing music after i download to iTunes. First problem I'm having is setting iTunes to play the music off the external. Once i transferred all my music i deleted the original files off my laptop main hard drive thinking it would play off the external. No didn't happen cause the original files could not be found. So how do i transfer all the songs i have now over to the external, remove the files off my laptop hard drive and use the external to store and tell iTunes to pick up the songs off of it? I'm getting hella gigs of music right now and i don't wanna use my laptop of course i would rather store everything on the external automatically and never worry about running out of room. Now let me say this i went to Edit-Preferences-Advanced Tab and changed the library location to the external but it changes it as soon as i play a song or even when i download a song it still stores it to the laptop hard drive. Is there something I'm missing here? Is there a way to change original files to a different hard drive?
fastbanshee8
When you download the song, does it give you the option to save it? If it does, you can then save it to whatever drive you want. I've never used iTunes, so that's why I'm asking.
KaosBanshee44
No i take it that when you download the iTunes software it ask you for a saving location which i did a long long time ago. Just dont know how to change it back or change it to something different. Now when i download songs it just automatically saves them. Sucks i need to figure this out soon. I mean what do people do that have 50 gigs of music and videos on there itunes they got to have a way to save it to a bigger hard drive. Bansh-eman
itunes is not able to play the music becasue it still has the old links from your other HD. what you need to do is go to your old hd and cut the itunes folder and paste it on the new HD. Then open itunes and select all and delete everything, so you wipe all the old links. then go to file and add folder to library. Now choose my computer and select the new HD and find the itunes folder and select it. It should load all the music from the new hd. then select all and right click and tell it to find album covers and you should be set
