Bigtime Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I just bought a 2005 Banshee, my first small issue is I think that the bike is jetted rich it has Bills pipes on it and bigger jets in it, I'm not sure exactly what size. The bike idles low, and if I'm not running it hard, or if I'm running it in low rpms the left cylinder coughs and misses. There is little power in the low rpm range, but it seems to clear up and run good higher in the rpms. I need to constantly rev the engine while I'm not on it to keep the left cylinder awake. The previous owner told me I may need to check the air to fuel mixture. I just think it's jetted rich. What do you guys think? Also I don't know what screws on the carbs adjust the idling or fuel mixture, I do not have the owners manual. Also when you adjust idling is it possible to mess it up so that one cylinder will idle faster/higher than the other? Or is the idling linked? My second major question is I plan on installing V Force 3 Reed Cages with Carbon fiber reeds. I ride trails in Pennsylvania and I stay out of the mud as much as possible. What is the best air box/air filter mods for trail riding/hill climbing. I've seen some kits that eliminate your air box all together, but I'm not sure if that is such a good idea because I will be in dusty/snowy conditions at times. Should I wait to rejet until I've installed the reeds, cages, filter, and airbox mods. Would the bigger jets be more likely to run better with these mods? I've owned a fourstroke for 10 years, this is my first two stroke, and I love it. I just need some guidance, all help is appreciated! Quote
okbeast Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 You'll have to see what jets are in it so we can give you an idea of where to go. What is your usual riding elevation? On the VF3's they come with their own reeds. For a bit cheaper alternative you can port your stock reed cages and put the "dual stage" CF reeds or w/e they are. I just got the VF3's though. For the filter you can get a K&N in box filter with an outerwear. Sounds like it would be your best bet. Quote

Thanks for your help, did the reed cages/reeds make a big difference for you? Where could I find this filter? Does it eliminate the needs for the air box lid? Quote

Where could I find this filter? Does it eliminate the needs for the air box lid? Just google your elevation. I put a whole new motor in that came with the reeds so I don't have any experience with them on stocker bikes. Search banshee K&N on rockymountainATV.com or google. It is the triangle one that uses a Pro-design adapter. And yes you can take the lid off if you want. Quote
Bigtime Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 My elevation is 1,666 FT, would you recommend taking the air box lid off, or do you think the air flow is good enough with it on. I thought the snorkel seemed rather constrictive. Quote
okbeast Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I don't run one at all. I ride in mostly sand though so I use the K&N with an outerwear and it does a great job. It just depends on what your riding conditions will be. Quote
Bigtime Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 Oh alright thanks man. Well how about the carb deal, can the cylinders have two different idle speeds? or do the idle together? How do i adjust the idle? Quote
okbeast Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Try using the search, it should bring up quite a few threads on tuning the stock carbs. Quote
R. Rollins Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) First and best advise is to get a Factory service manual or Clymer manual. Get any new parts you plan on installing. Take the carbs off and clean the shit out of them. Install the new jets according to the altitude above sea level. The manual states the higher the altiitude, the smaller the jets. Each jet has a small marking on it to tell you the size it is. Anyhow, put it together and next is to get a carb syncronizer. (there is a cheap version made for carb syncing volkwagons that the BansheeHQ video DVD uses as a demonstration that is really good.) Adjust the cables from the throttle and adjust according to proceedures. That thing will scream when adjusted properly. The properly syncronized carbs will make her hum like a sewing machine.(a really loud one) lolol I start mine with my wrist on the kick start lever with one push of the hand. Dont let your patience get the best of you. You get the feel of her as you experiment with your jets and settings. Have fun and welcome to the Best link to the fun haven you will ever know. Bigtime Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) Thanks so much for all of your advice. Where could I pick up the synchronizor tool? Is it the one that Wesw uses in his youtube video? What size jets should I pick up for a good start? Is it better to learn to jet it yourself? Or have it brought to a professional? Thanks guys! Would this kit be sufficient for all my jetting needs? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DYNOJET-KIT...sQ5fAccessories Edited February 23, 2009 by Bigtime Quote
TwistedSheeRida Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 http://books.google.com/books?id=SlL970Dgj...rs+control+unit thats the banshee manual online i run a pro-flo intake in my airbox with the lid off and a k&n ride trails up here in maine. R. Rollins Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Here is the link to the E-bay auction that has this carb sync tool for sale. http://cgi.ebay.com/Carb-Sync-Airflow-Mete...%3A1%7C294%3A50 I thought this would be a click on active link but its not. Just try and copy and past it. Ray Rollins sends... Quote
