J.J. Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Anyone try Mechanix gloves? I want to buy a couple of sets for my crew. We supervise the construction of ships, so will mostly use them for protection while climbing scaffolding and steel structures. I need opinions on durability and which type. Thanks, J.J. Quote
blanco25 Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 I like them for my work. I work for otis elevator, construction and repair. I also use them for riding. I wanna say they are like 24 bucks. I uses the ones that say mechanix on the back of your hand. Quote
2001Stroker Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 If you're gonna be doing alot of climbing, I recommend some sort of a tactical glove. I have a pair of Blackhawk SandStorm. Decent glove, for under $20. Wiley-X make real good gloves for climbing/repelling. Quote
BansheeRider87 Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 I have Carharrts but thats because I love Carharrt quality. I got an awesome pair there waterproof, cut proof, puncture resistint, cushings in the palm area, but for $34.99 they'll last you forever Quote
lokisbuddy Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 If you plan on using them as intended (for wrenching) I would say pass on those and get either the otc or the craftsman mechanic gloves they dont rip out in the fingers quite as soon or at k mart they have these x games gloves that I use for 13 bucks no probs yet. I am a fan of the M-Pact II Mechanix gloves. I use them at work and at home. I rarely do anything at work that is hands-on anymore, but when I do, it usually has something to do with something that is hot, cold, sharp, or will mess up your hands. The dexterity is traded for padding in this case, but they are great for what I need. They do not hold up around TIG welding very well though. The heat and IV screws them up pretty bad. Quote
J.J. Posted February 10, 2009 Author Report Posted February 10, 2009 Thanks once again, M-Pact II you say. We don't wrench or do any hotwork or labor of any kind, just supervising. Dexterity - can one still operate a cell phone or hold a pen for a signature once in a while? Quote

Dexterity - can one still operate a cell phone or hold a pen for a signature once in a while? M-Pact II definitely allows you to write or finger away on a Balckberry. They even allow you to do very fine TIG welding until the dry out and crack. Again, I use them at home and at work. In recent years, I have come to realize that my hands are much more fragile than they used to be (especially after I flipped a sprint car over onto my right hand 7 years ago). These gloves keep my hands looking very businees like even after doing some stupid stuff with them. The only thing I can say is that you can't take apart you laptop while wearing them, but you can't do that with most gloves (that is possibly a story for another time). Quote
J.J. Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 Great, just want I needed to hear. Thanks once again for the replies. Quote
