Has anyone ever thought about putting a RZ500 (2 stroke 4 cylinder ) engine in a Banshee

I have this wild Idea that The HQ gurus should build a "SUPER BANSHEE".

Take a good, hard to come by Yamaha RZ500 "4 cylinder 2 stroke engine and sandwich it in a banshee frame.

I saw a Hayabusa engine in if I remember correctly, a CanAm chassis yesterday on E-bay. Looked cool but for us Banshee enthusiasts,

Wow what a concept.

Forget about turbo charging, supercharging, or even the fuel injection I have listened to some rave about.

Back to basics....Historical two stroke power from hell I say.

What are the possibilities do you all think???

Could It be done I just wonder.

Here is the way I look at it.

Hell ive got a whole garage full of ATV`s

2 Banshees,

1 polaris scrambler 400,

1 Polaris Trailboss 250 for the wife,

one little pristine Honda TRX 70 for my 7 year old.

Crap Im just wondering if I should get the motor 1st, then find a roller Banshee Chassis and go from there.

Hell Tate lives here in the Denver area , so after its modified, I could get him to put the sick powdercoating from hell on it.

The hard parts I am thinking will be the custom pipes through the chassis frame.

I would have to out source this to a fab shop that specializes in pipes.

Ahhh what the hell, I waited my whole adult life just to own a Banshee while I was Active Duty Marine Corps.

I think that now that I have the time, It would be the ultimate project.

i just wonder about how much that sort of engine(complete " would cost????

$2,000

$4,000

any thoughts or guestimates?

I saw a Yamaha RZ-500 sell the other day for $6,500 in really outstanding shape while another one was attempting to get over 20 grand for his....yea good luck with that one there buddy.

I saw some case halves for about $250.00 for that motor.

The only thing is Babbits doesnt sell parts for it because it is not USA supported.

I would have to locate the original service manual for it.....I only use factory manuals,

plus...I guess that I would have to go over seas to find one.

I wonder if they made these for export to Australia.

I have an Aunt that lives there.

The more I think about it ...

The more I want to do it.

do u guys know of "the kangaroo kid" matt coulter? he is a pom but lives in australia, has been doing quad stunts for years, famous for jumping over paddle steamers and helicopters etc... anyway he has a quadzilla with an RZ500 motor in it, pretty sure there are a few other ones floating around on the net, do a search on google.

from what i can gather its pretty hard to get them to make anything over 100hp reliably, so a well tuned cub or cheetah etc would probably smoke it anyway.

if your heart is still set on doing it (would look and sound cool if nothing else) check out www.rzrd500.com for parts and info.

Hey thanks guys for the encouragement.

I never said I wanted a death trap fastest thing on the planet quad....Just something really different.

I just checked out RZ500 performance here in the states.

I also just checked on E-bay and there is a guy in Australia who builds custom RZ500 mod bikes that I think i can get some leads from.

I want a good reliable stock RZ-500 engine and just have custom built pipes made for it to have it look like some proto type "super Banshee" kind of theme.

I just got back from the above suggested website. The rdrz500.com site.

Its really promising as it seems that they have located a guy that specializes in these custom built racing pipes for the RZ500 bikes and special fab work is his thing.

They also have a few bikes for under $9,000 and a few in the $6,000 range

I could get a whole bike and part it out , sell the rest and still be ok.

Thoughts?
