asphalt override

I run asphalt and i would keep the 1-5 because to clutch it when you hit 6th its not going to want to go into gear and with a 1-5 you should have plenty of gears to make the 1/4 miles and 1/8

what gears and tire heigth are you runnin? Im just curious, not tryin to be a smartass. I run 17/44 with 18's and have the 1-6 full override and run out of gear in the 1/8th. I know i need taller tires of course but you know, they cost money.

I run dirt alot too so thats why i got the 44 in the back, im lazy and don't want to change the sprockets all the time.

and if your gonna be running alot of asphalt, why not just get the 1-6?

I'm running 20.5x10x10 americam racers sd23. I ran 18/40 last time to the track and had plenty of gear for the 1/8 ran threw it at 96mph going to run my 17/40 next time can get there quicker and still have plenty of gear. Have a full drag ported 4mill with lockup,39 carbs, on alky, coolhead yadda yadda 2-5 cyrnoed tranny which i'm changing to a 1-5 soon as it take it out. Motor all done by Jeff at FAST

With 18/40 i had enough gear for a 1000ft easy so changing back to 17/40 because i only care to run the 1/8 an dnot the 1/4.

A 1-6 tranny with tear up on asphalt. They would be nice ass hell to have but have talked to lots of people and never heard of one yet that lived longer than a few races.

Why i think a 1-5 is the perfect tran and will hold up pretty good. If your limmited on power and need more gears a 1-6 may hold up. And with a manual 5th and 6th with a lockup i think it would be hell to get into gear ? maybe not?

What kinda motor and times are you running in the 1/8? i would think its mainly because of the 44 in the rear. I would think if you went with a 18 in the front and have the power that should fix you running out of gear and you can swap back to a 17 without changing chain length and not sur ehow much shorter your rear tires are than mine

You want a 2:1 gear ratio to run pavement...in other words, 18/36 or something similar. That's why the pavement guys get honda sprocket hubs for their axles. You can readily buy the smaller sprockets for the back.

The key is if you have the motor to pull that 18 up front...if you're a heavy rider...that might be a chore for that 4 mil, even with leaving in first.

I know with my luck, I'll forget to pull the clutch for 5th and 6th.

I know I can gear mine with stock crank/basket gears to leave in first and have enough gear for the 1/8 mile.

1/4 might be a stretch...with only 1-5 in my motor.

its a 427 trex, drag ported, 39 pwks, alcohol, 1-6 full override, stock clutch basket crank gears, and im runnin 18" tires. Its all i got, that will be the first upgrade(taller tires and american racers) The best time ive ran so far is a 7.4 @90mph with that setup. I have no idea as to what power its making and yes im a heavy rider  255-265. My 60ft is where im the worst, on that pass i believe it was a 1.86.

Do yall think 18-10-10 american racer sd-23 is to wide of a tire for my application? stock gearing and length.

also this thing is pretty low to the ground, everytime i go to the track i get two motorcycle straps and strape the front and rear, so the banshee is only about 5in off the ground.
