Nah seriously though if you keep it cool and out of sunlight it will last longer but I usually try to use it within 3 months otherwise it goes in the car. Fireroad Express Posted February 1, 2009 Report Share Posted February 1, 2009 it doesn't take long for gas to break down these days. i did a tune-up on a sled this fall that sat for about 7months without fuel stabilizer. when i took the carbs apart i could tell the gas had deteriorated cause it had a very strong varnish smell to it. i had worked on the same machine the previous season and the carbs were spotless . whatever they put in the fuel these days really seems to reduce its shelf life. Rodneya Posted February 2, 2009 Report Share Posted February 2, 2009 Gas only goes bad when it starts to smell like lacquer thinner and that takes 6 months or more. Just add some fuel stabilizer if you are worried about storing it. Way cheaper than tossing gas out, and wont do anything to your carbs or motor. SpecialEd 05 you got me thinking about the 2 stroke oil being hydroscopic and im using ester oil and thats worse for absorbing water. iv never had gas longer than 4-5 weeks anyway so im safe. thanx.
