VWMIKE
Hey Guys, Ok well looks like the new shee I picked up is more fucked up than originally thought. I drained the oil out of the tranny because I was going to pull the clutch cover off and check out what was up with my kick start. That was no big deal, but I did notice it didn't have near as much oil as it should of. Before I got it, very obvious the chain came off and got bunched up at the front sprocket, it broke the top of the case, and they replaced the plastic stator cover, must a broke that too. I didn't notice till today that the case is cracked under where the shift shaft enters the case, not around the boss itself but on the flat area under neath. Is this really common? I'm thinking this is why case savers where invented for these!! I figure I'll clean the shit out of it, rough it up with some 120 grit and jb weld it. Should hold till it's time for a rebuild, and will just replace the cases. Just wondering what other people do! Thanks Mike
sheefreak
It is harder to find a set of Banshee cases used w/o the chain brake than it is with...... If it doesn't leak you are good to go. Doesn't have to hold pressure or anything.
locogato11283
a machine shop or welding shop can run the tig welder over it to seal it back up. shouldnt be a big deal at all.
xXBlessedWithDeathXx
what you need to do is look over your swing arm and axle bearings to see if they need replaced.
VWMIKE
Ya the rear carrier/axle where crazy trashed when I got it, I will have to post a pic of what the spacer between the bearings looked like, but everything including the axle, bearings, carrier, sproker, and brake hubs was screwed! It's going back together with a new g-force axle, bearings, used carrier, etc this week.
xXBlessedWithDeathXx
if you keep an eye on them bearings you dont need a case saver. i have one but i`m lazy like that.
locogato11283
if you keep an eye on them bearings you dont need a case saver. i have one but i`m lazy like that. wtf do the bearings have to do with not needing a case saver? good bearings will not keep a chain from coming off and breaking something. xXBlessedWithDeathXx
If your chain is adjusted right and your bearings arnt bad your swingarm or axle wont shift to pop the chain you dumb fuck.
locogato11283
If your chain is adjusted right and your bearings arnt bad your swingarm or axle wont shift to pop the chain you dumb fuck. swingarms and axles shifting arent the main cause of chains coming off.. youre far more likely to break a front sprocket, which i have, or get a stick or rock caught up in there. worn out chain sliders and rollers are far more likely to cause a chain to come off. absolutely your chain should be adjusted properly, but bad bearings arent nearly as likely to cause a chain to come off. whats with the name calling? youre a dick.. i just got a PM from some sissy saying youre an asshole. regalrocket
If the swingarm or axle bearings are bad, the chain can come off from simply turning. I had a 200x with bad swingarm bearings, if you did doughnuts to the right, it would slack the chain and toss it. Fucked up a case before I learned not to be cheap and fix the dam thing when you see its broke.
xXBlessedWithDeathXx
hes right, i am an asshole but did you notice how when i said he should look over them bearings he said they were fucked? my bad, it must have bin the roller bearing or a stick. what was i thinking. Bansh-eman
if you keep an eye on them bearings you dont need a case saver. i have one but i`m lazy like that. This is bad advice. Regardless of new or old bearings your chain can still snap or come off. Either way you should put a case saver on. I run a Regina chain with all new bearings and gears, but you bet your ass there is still a case saver on there just in case.
locogato11283
that cant be true. are you sure it wasnt a stick? start a poll retard. find out whats more common.. chain coming off from bad bearings or from something else. to tell someone that they dont need a case saver simply by making sure their bearings are good is ridiculous.
