front sprocket nut

Recommended Posts

Something weird going on for sure, when you get a new nut to put on, does it spin on freely from the start or is it tight instantly? I have never had a problem with this either and I just snug them fairly tight. I dont see how this could be happening unless the shaft is screwed, but I trust when you say it isn't. If your lucky, you just got a couple bad ones, doughtful, Good luck with it!

no they have threaded on by hand, easily , both times ive replaced them, no resistance, i thread it all the way down by hand, and hand snug it, then put the chain on, have somsone hold the brakes then tighten good with the wrench.. im fuckin cluless on whats goin on here, when it warms up a bit ill throw another one on, ill put it on with a 32mm socket tight as hell and hope for the best...

2 of us had ours back off on us at the dunes at halloween, I had the washer bent over in two places as well and it still somehow got loose. Not sure if somehow it gets just a little loose and causes the washer to come out of its grooves and allow it to turn off or what but I impacted that bitch back on this time around.

i think thats it..

ive noticed that some of my sprockets are just a little wider than others. not sure why or if this is a common occurrence. but it looks to be like the clip barely catches the splines.

i mostly run sprocket specialist ones because i run 15, 16 and 17 tooth..

sometimes my clip doesnt wanna sit on the splines very well. i can see how if you dont use an impact that the clip never really sits on the splines.

MJ, im betting this is your problem.

I had problems with this in the past and one days i figured out that i could bend the retainer on 3 edges instead of the 2 normaly. never had any problem ever since. also make sure you bend them over real tight and dont reuse them more than once or twice... there cheap

so if this is correct what ur saying about snugging it a bit, why the hell would mine be coming off? when i first put it on, its tight as can be, there is no slop in the threads, 8 months later the threads on the nut are all chewed up, again, but the threads on the shaft are fine, the nut must be softer metal, no ?

Does the sprocket move on the shaft forward and backward. Slop on the teeth of the shaft or id. of the sprocket?

no theres really no play in the sprocket itself, the play is in the nut only, it has play forwards and backwards on the threads and it looks like a little in and out play on the shaft too, just like last time, im gona toss on a new one in a few days, and i just ordered a backup one and lockwasher from yamaha today, little fuckers are expensive, like $10 for nut and washer
