CBAIER1206
My friends stator just went out and we were trying to get his flywheel off and it was a real mutha bitch! used an impact carefully and stripped the threads on the flywheel and the flywheel puller. I guess sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you dont! Flywheel came off though...

Flywheel came off though... i guess i just cant see how you stripped the threads.. i mean i understand that it can be done, but i would think that properly installed there should be no problems. im not even careful about how i put the puller on. i usually make sure i can get the max number of threads into the flywheel without having too few threads left on the puller bolt and then buzz it off. maybe im just really lucky. racer
If you have the impact, what about one of those C02 power cylinders they sell at Lowe's? Probably won't run the impact very long, but it's only one fastener.
BlasterKX
i also use an impact for the puller and never had a prob. i usually just thread it in as far as i can snug it up and hit the impact and boom it pops right off.
fastrthnu
Im not sayin it will ruin it by using an impact, but it can. its less likely to happen on something like this, but it happened to me before and I stopped usung them. Ive done it on these, 450`s dirtbikes, harmonic ballancers ect and fried quite a few. the worst was on a coil srping compressor for front coils on my old drag car. I guess Im just that strong doin it with wrenches is not a problem for me. Im sure if its not on there super tight and the woodruff key was level as it should be it would zip right off without damage. Ive also had to ruin lots of parts getting a flywheel off in a hydrolic shop press because it was wedged on so hard with a crooked key. you can make a cheater bar out of 2 cresent wrenches too putting an open end through a closed end. old backyard mechanic trick. J-Madd
I've had 2 pullers ruined by loaning them out. They guys didn't thread the puller in far enough...........and you can guess what happened after that. You could also try a strap wrench to hold the flywheel. magz
I've pulled over 8 flywheels including mine twice with the same puller...dont know what the deal is for you guys that sucks if it strips...
MikeNick
MAKE sure you you have the threaded part of the puller threaded into the flywheel as far as it will go, I didnt do that once and used the impact an ripped the 1st thread off the puller. Had to have a buddy take it to his shop an use a lathe to cut the boogered thread part off so I owuldnt have to buy another puller.
