devin4491
i found a +16 swingarm on ebay, looks good.. im just curious if this is overkill. my bike has 160 horsepower and 85 ft lbs of torque (its a 2001 R1 engine) in a stock frame, so would a +16 work? im running 26x12x12 sand blasters. and im in louisiana (cuz i know the type of sand has alot to do with it...) Any help is appreciated.. thanks

docjcwatson
Ummm. I had this same question not to long ago. I asked a buddy if it was a good idea for the longest swingarm possible. I was looking at a +16 for my 593cc Cheetah. This is what I came up with; Although, it seems like a great idea to go with a longer arm, it will end up hurting you in the end. You DO NOT want to go over a +14 swinger. The reason being is, you have more chances for the long ass chain to jump. Even if you have a tensioner on there, you might as well forget it man. Plus, even though you have the power with that engine to drive that long of a swingarm, you are going to be robbing yourself of a lot of power! If you are hell bent on trying it, give it a whack and let us know how it goes. There is a reason that +16 arms are pretty cheap. I strongly suggest that if you are looking for more length, you modify your chassis first, OR get a drag chassis. For that motor, I think it would look great in an extended chassis anyway. wesw
doesnt an r1 motor weigh like a shit load i bet you could get by with a 8/10 over if that. you will have so much weight on the front end i doubt it will want to even come up. might be a 6 over you will have to do some figuring but just remember that. wesw
i still think a 10 over will be to much unless your putting nos and turbo shit on. saw some of those hybrids at the dunes swear one had like a 4 over on. 100lbs in the front end is a lot of weight. would look more towards a 6 - 8.
