As long as you have 6" you will probably be fine. I went out a couple winters ago on a river and it was damn fun!

I don't seem to have the pictures on this computer though

I did run on river a few times and I had a lot of fun before this happen :

Oh come on now  Those cracks = traction once the ice starts breaking apart! :whistling:

When I was a teen living in Upstate NY I used to race snowmobiles on Long Lake NY. The requirement was 6-8 inches because they would line up each heat into 4 machines. The worst time to race was late March because of the pressure peaks you would get on the lake from currents under the ice. Well if you weren't paying attention that sled would hit one of those and your day was done at that point. Some would get as high as 2 feet up and acted like a ramp. Sounds fun until you are topped out.

Just be careful is all I'm sayin. 4 inches is plenty for one machine.

We have 3-4 feet of ice here right now and I can hear ice cracking... and I don't think it's dangerous lol! But, I'd not try to ride my shee on 3-4 inches not at all! I'm secure with 1 feet but we have 3-5 feet of ice every winter anyway so no problem

Thats whats weird is I know once the ice gets pretty thick its safe but I would just never trust it.. I live in a region where ice fishing, snowmobiling ect is normal but just never been confortable going on ice.. As for the sound its just wierd and erie sounding in general..

For those who have never heard it..

There are two bald eagles that we have seen twice out on the lake and have seen foxes every other day.. Today the foxes were crossing and one broke through the ice.. Figured damn it, Iam gonna watch this poor thing drown or freeze.. Shit, thing poped out like nothing.. Pretty cool to see!

Weve got 5 solid inches now, and its cold as hell... The ice is very hard.. We are studdin up the bikes tomorrow, and should have 4-5 banshees on the lake. Ill post vids for all you guys who are apprehensive to the ice.... The cracking is normal, and just nature telling you to get out there and have fun! Be safe!!

it's when you dont hear the "erie cracks" that you should be worried out there. All the cracking and plunking sounds you hear is ice being made below you and heaving whats already been made up. No cracks or plunking = no good!

I've been ice fishing and stuff for years but i'll admit the 1st tiem out for the season and your sitting in your shanty fishing and all the sudden a big crack goes my and your seat moves still scares ya at 1st.

I;m not sure what gear that is that stripped but if its 5th or 6th and it was my tranny I would never know. Riding areas are pretty tight around here and i have only seen above 4th once in the past year and it was on the road. Pretty sad
