leadsled01
The seal on the shifter shaft is leaking. Do I have to split the engine case to replace this seal?

FASTOYS
NO , but you may also need a shift shaft IF yours has a groove in it and the seal doesnt fix it. The seal just pushes in!
mofoka
That is a good point about the shaft, definately look if there is wear. If it is just leaking a little, I'd just put in a new seal. I think mine was around $10 from the dealer. Just dig the old one out, and press the new one in. (I coated it lightly with some fresh oil but that's just me)
BUILDER
The way to replace that seal is to pull your clutch cover and then pull the clutch basket and then you can pull the shift shaft out and look it over and see if it is still good then you can just pull the seal out and put a new one in and put it all back together. Yeah that sounds like a better way to do it. And you can do the shifter mod at the same time.
travis6767
just take a machine screw, screw into the seal and take some pliers and pull it out, and you can see the shift shaft, look for a groove if no groove then put your new seal in, this is how i did mine, unless you want to mod the shift star then you should do it the way the other guy said

firebanshee
Thanks to all who replied!! What shifter mod are you talking about? The shift star mod were you grind down the high peaks on the star to make it shift easier.
