Water pump impeller

I am getting coolant in my tranny. I am sure that there is a groove worn in the water pump impeller from the seal. I was looking in my RM ATV catalog and for a replacement Pro Design impeller (same as I currently have) and noticed that Modqaud has upgraded the shaft on theirs to a stainless steel shaft. This has always been the issue with the inferior water pump impellers is the shaft wears out quickly. Anybody try the new Modquad impeller? If so, let me know, there is a $35 difference in price. If not, then I have no issue spending the extra for the one I know will last. Likewise, I don't want to give $35 away if I don't have to!

Jeff also has the PD impeller for the same price. If it is PD then I'll get it form him anyway. Just curious if Modquad has stepped up to the plate.

Thanks,

SP

pro design!!! i bought a modquad and put 12 hours on it.. had coolant in my tranny, the shaft has a bad groove in it.. was a new seal and bearing also.. modquad=junk!!

I had the same issue with the last one I had but it had an aluminum shaft. Modquad is no using a stainless shaft. Anybody have experience with the new ones?

i think that modquad should replace these inferior impellers that tehy made with the aluminum shafts.. they are aware that they were junk from obviously changing the shaft.. so they should replace the impeller that only laster me about 3 rides... thats just bad business.. i will call them and see what i can get done

I have used both in my builds and acctually prefer the modquad over the pro-design. The new shafts on the modquad piece are good, just make sure to chamfer the end of it before you push it throught the seal or you will ruin your seal.

I don't know about the modquad impellers but there is a big difference in stainless and it's ability to not wear. You must use the correct stainless and the correct temper to avoid wearing. Pro design must use the correct stainless.
