spurdy Posted December 24, 2008 Report Share Posted December 24, 2008 I am getting coolant in my tranny. I am sure that there is a groove worn in the water pump impeller from the seal. I was looking in my RM ATV catalog and for a replacement Pro Design impeller (same as I currently have) and noticed that Modqaud has upgraded the shaft on theirs to a stainless steel shaft. This has always been the issue with the inferior water pump impellers is the shaft wears out quickly. Anybody try the new Modquad impeller? If so, let me know, there is a $35 difference in price. If not, then I have no issue spending the extra for the one I know will last. Likewise, I don't want to give $35 away if I don't have to! Jeff also has the PD impeller for the same price. I had the same issue with the last one I had but it had an aluminum shaft. Modquad is no using a stainless shaft. Anybody have experience with the new ones? The new shafts on the modquad piece are good, just make sure to chamfer the end of it before you push it throught the seal or you will ruin your seal. I don't know about the modquad impellers but there is a big difference in stainless and it's ability to not wear. You must use the correct stainless and the correct temper to avoid wearing.
