fck55mph
I rebuilt a buddies banshee a bunch of years back and the exact same thing happened. i cut the switch, then pulled plug wires..still revved to the moon. i finally put it gear and held both brakes to make it die. turned out it was the line that connects both carbs..i think its the choke tube or wutever its called. anyway, put that on and it fired right back up and ran like a champ. after the redline right after a rebuild, we figured it was broke in!! haha....i wound up riding it in the sand dune all that weekend and it ran perfect. that might be somewhere to start for ya. serius4play
Sounds like detonation or maby a air leak like they said or your kill switch isnt working properly.
SpeedRacer88
ok thanks everyone i got the air leak fixed banshee runs fine except no power around idle to 1/4 throttle pilot is 52 main is 150 i guess you can call it a bog... bike doesnt accelerate kinda hear nasally(like a nose) sound coming from the air filters please help he has the same mods as me except he has an generic(no name) trail port

AKheathen
bump not quite sure what you mean by nasally. like steve erkil having sex? a bog off idle would almost like it's tryin to die, but a hesitation would be tat it wouldn't have much power untill you held it there for a second, then power would start to kick in(under load)
SpeedRacer88
well i guess its a bog

No Limit Powersports
Most likely caused by a lean condition and it got hot. 1st rule when starting a new motor should be make sure you can shut it off never trust the kill switch lol (chain has to be on, be on the bike) Never let the bike set there and do that for no minute get on it throw it in gear and kill it. The smoke could likely be coolant if its a oring/head gasket, but also you could of blew it up if you let it lean rev for a minute and half??? That might be slightly lean in the main. I would start with 160 mains. Whats the temp and elevation? Where is the air screw set at on the carbs? What position is the clip on the needle? You can always give me a ring, PM or email me.
dirtfreak
WAY back in the day....we had a Jet Ski do the same thing. Luckily, out of water on a stand.Kill switch didn't work, we ended up pulling the gas feed line/cap off...and letting it run out of fuel. (It sucked the fuel down like water from a straw) Needless to say, after we leak down tested it and found a bad intake gasket, no one was jumping at the opportunity to be the first to ride it on the lake. Alky bikes are good for doing that...running away is what we call it. Normally..what we do is click up as many gears as we can, FLOOR the throttle...STAND on the brake and dump the clutch to kill it. First time it happens to you...you damn near shit yourself.... Leak down test it. What happens is due to the air leak, it gets SO hot in the cylinder that it no longer needs spark to ignite the fuel/air. It ignites off the heat and compression (yes...just like a diesel) Funny thing is...a top fuel dragster makes half the pass down the track like this, every time. They burn off the spark plugs and literally diesel half way down the track... that dont work on every thing ,my cr 500 stuck wide open and i immediately pulled in the clutch shifted from 2nd to fifth stomped the brake and let off the clutch and it went in to a sliding wheelie.i just kicked away from it and let it do its own thing with out me.was scary as fuck.i repaired the kill switch and the problem with the slide in the carb and had butterflies in my stomach the next time i went to ride it. Huey73
If this every happens to anyone else. The quickest way to stop the engine is to choke it. The engine has gone to a super lean condition. I'm a marine mechanic and the Johnson/evinrude 40HP were notorious for doing this when running on a garden hose and you rev it then slam it back to idle(doing that sequence sets up the lean condition)
