I will run for a little bit then it dies..You have to hold the throttle open or it won't idle. I had a melted headlight wire and was wondering do any of you think I messed the stator up from that and maybe thats why it wont run/idle?? I regapped the pickup to .015 thousandths and made sure I had the timing plate lined up on the case at +4..Im lost...

I used a card that was the same thickness as a .20 thousandths feeler gauge and should I put some silicon on that woodruff key an let it set up so it stays in its spot, it had it on it when I took it apart..

Not to but in ,..but I just did mine last night, and the distrucion said0.010 is that not enuf?

did u get your ground wire bolted back on the new timing plate? anyway you may have damaged the stator when swapping everything?? your headlights are on a seperate circuit from your ignition on the stator..

HMMM Im not sure..I will check that an return in abit..

What timing plate do you have? I can't remember which timing plate it is, but I remember reading that one of them uses a different reference point. ProDesign and Chariot use the line where the cases come apart. There's one that uses something else.

Could this be it Mike?

not to insult you but your not using an advanced timng key as well right? i know its a dumb question but had to ask

You may want to explain what the advance timing key is. I've never heard of that myself. He got his bike used so nothing is out of the question on stuff like that.

It is a flywheel key that lines up the crank and the flywheel. where it lines up the flywheel is offset so it hits the magnets a little earlier than it would if it was a straight key.

If you looked at an advanced timing key from the front or back...it would look like an L type shape, instead of flat on both sides.

Instead of a standard key, flat on both sides.

Hey would the key look like it has wear spots on the sides...Very slight edge you can catch with your finger nail on one side??
