WON'T RUN RIGHT!

Well I put my new adj timing plate on and got everything set, pickup set with a credit card at .20" thousandths and I started it and it ran ok idling, took it out across the driveway and it kept bogging down, no power what so ever, actually wouldnt idle without giving it some gas and it was still missing. My question is because it was like 30 out last night would the jetting make it run like this, 2 could I have adjusted the gap wrong or timing plate lined up wrong or 3 could my stator be bad...I was thinking it was running that way because it was cold out, also b4 it died one time while messing with it it backfired and died..Im lost on this..blahh

Did it run ok before you did this? It really sounds like to me that you did not get the pickup set right. Are you sure you had the flywheel turned to the right spot when you adjusted the pickup?

Yeah it ran fine b4 the timing plate...Arent there 2 raised spots on the flywheel that you can go off of to adjust the pickup gap??

are you sure you advanced the timing and didn't retard the timing?? also was your woodruff key ok?? and did you reinstall the flywheel with a air impact?? do not put grease or anything on the crankshaft when reinstalling the flywheel!

I lined up the notch right below +5 on the case line like the install topic on here shows and yes I did put the flywheel back on with an impact..No grease on cracnkshaft and I put the woodruff key back in its slot on the crank an then slid the flywheel onto it until the flywheel an crank turned together...

Backfired through the exhaust

If it ran fine before you installed the plate then you either have the gap to big or you did not get the plate back down in were it sets all the way or like the other guy said make sure you didnt retard the timing instead of advancing it. Or you may have pushed the key out when you were putting the flywheel back on.

Did you use a credit card or a business card? There is a big size difference

I used a card that was the same thickness as a .20 thousandths feeler gauge and should I put some silicon on that woodruff key an let it set up so it stays in its spot, it had it on it when I took it apart..

As long as you are careful you should have no problem getting it back on without putting anything on the key. Like the other guy said i would take the flywheel back of and check everything over really good i think you will find that something in there just did not get back right.
