it went ok, spent about an hour cleaning and checking stuff out, got the wrist pin bearing out, and got the left piston out, it was melted all the way down the wall. its not even resleeveable, there is a crack in the cylinder itself. its ok, i may just get 2 new cylinders. i got alot of the rust out of the right cylinder with pb blaster and a paper towel, but i cant get the rust towards the top off... any ideas?

the crank looks just fine, but i have no idea where the pieces of the piston went, they do not sound like they are in the bottom end. we are going to buy a jug of wd40 and pour it in the bottom end to flush it out.

oh, and the connecting rods are able to move sideways just the tiniest bit.

is it going to be ok like that? or do i need to slit the cases?

You should split the cases just to make sure there is nothing in there and to inspect the crank, there could be something in there and cause you to have to rebuild it all over again. Its alot cheaper to check it out while its already tore down that far.

Is this your first shee? You should check out F.A.S.T. Racing he is haveing alot of xmas sells right now and will take time out of his busy day to answer any questions you have. You will need a flywheel puller, and a clymers manual will make it alot easier to get it going again. Also a carb sync tool is a must have for a banshee.

All of the bolts and nuts are numbered, i normally loosen them alittle at a time in order. When you put it back together tighten them in order alittle at a time. Its pretty simple just pay attention to how it comes apart and look for all the little stuff like the clips around the crank bearing and the tranny bearings. You should also order new crank seals if your gonna split the cases.

well, ive never really split the cases by myself, but i may give it a try because it looks simple on this thing, but damn, you know how much money this is going to cost? anybody have a vid or how-to on how to split the cases on a banshee?

good idea on splitting the cases. may as well do everything while you have it all apart. your going to love the banshee over the dirt bike. my brother went from two wheels to a banshee and is always telling me he wishes he did it earlier.

where are you from, do you mostly ride trails, sand, etc?

your def. on the right site to get your bike going again.

oh ya the banshee looks real sweet in your pics, you got a good deal and once the banshees together you will be saying the same thing for sure

welcome to the hq pm me w any questions w your build.

later

I think you will be better off spliting the cases and checking everything out. Its kind of a motto do it once do it right. I did my case splitting myself it isnt so bad just becarefull and make sure you got a clymers manual right there and the lap top on hand also i did lol. There are alot of guys on here who are really good with these engines and will help you with any questions you need and even give you tips on how to and what nots. Welcome to bhq sit back and hold on its one hell of a ride in here.

banshee bottom end is the easiest one ive ever done. just like was said before pay real good attention to the little clips and pins that align the crank and trans gears. if you shop around and get the best deals you can have that thing back together for a reasonable amount. im having trouble understanding your cylinder situation tho. so the cylinder that isnt cracked is bored to 66.25?

no, i was only asking because i found a real cheap one on ebay that was bored to 66.25.

the cylinder isnt worth messing with.

i had turned the engine on its side when i was going to pull the flywheel, and a little ball fell out of the other side. look at the rod with the paper towel in it, is that where it came from?

i hope so, because thats where i put it, lol.
