05.Banshee.SE
As you can see [sig] my pipes are rusting a bit towards the header.... Can someone reccomend what grits to use to remove surface rust, and to remove all the black paint? And reccomend a paint for it? (Hi Temp 1500* flat black grill paint? Header paint? Is there any high temp gloss? What do you use?) Thank you in advance.
2001Stroker
How much money are you willing to spend? I'm sure grill paint would work, but it probably won't last long. That stuff burns off grills that only get 350*. I found out last week that chroming them will cost about $300-350, and that's if you can find a chromer that will do used pipes. JetHot seems to be the way to go. I think it's about $200 to get them done. And, you could always try high temp powder coating. Not sure how much heat it will hold. Or, just buy some high heat gloss spray paint. Get the pipes good and hot, and spray them to bake it on.
05.Banshee.SE
I don't want them chrome at all. I want to stay black. The grill paint is good until 1500*, and the header paint 2000*. What grit paper will take the paint and rust off, to metal? (A range is fine.) I'd rather paint them myself cheaply a round and see how it goes. If it doesn't turn out well, powdercoating will be my next option.

wayfast1500
I painted the heads for my old firebird and a few exhausts with header paint and it held up real nice, The firebird still looked great when I sold it and one of the exhausts was on my old truck, had it on there for around 2 years and when I traded it in it still didnt have and chips or scuffs taken out. I wheeled that truck a few times too and the mud always washed right off it.

I'm sure grill paint would work, but it probably won't last long. That stuff burns off grills that only get 350*. I can't even get it to stay on a grill for more than 6 months. That stuff is junk. BansheeRider87
I can get ceramic coated then polished. Not as bright as chrome but looks sick. He does snowmobile cans and pipes. He used to do chrome but not anymore. I should be getting my fmfs done soon. But I would go with stroker, get the pipest hot and spray it on. 278
He man here's a link on what I did to mine Ceramic Coating, they came out great and I did my cylinders too. I would use like 220 grit sand paper, or a wire wheel anything finer than 220 will take a long time because it will get gumbed up fast. I havn't been able to test these things out in the woods yet, but its hella cheap it cost me like $12 in paint and from dropping then on the counter they seemed to have held up pretty good it didnt flake or chip
