JasonsBanshee
So I rolled my bike the other day. It only rolled over and ended upside down at a fairly slow speed. I flipped it back over and the only damage I saw was I bent my brand new bars. So I got some pro tapers and put them on. I notice now the the right side is lower than the right side. The right side is the side that took the impact and I thought the bars took it because they were bent. I don't think it's in the bars or the risers because they are brand new. I can't see any bends in the stem visually. Is there anything I should look at? I'm thinking I may just replace the stem to see if that fixes it but I just wish I could see a bend before I go replacing it. If it's bent, I'd assume it's at the top. bbcmudtruck
Haha, yep I'll bet its the stem. You need to take it out and look to see if its bent. I'm in the process of replacing my 3rd one.
shogs
Just take your bars off and lay it against something you know is straight. That will solve the wondering of if the bars are bent or not. I haven't heard anyone say things about bending bars but its funny what a slow wreck can do to your bike. Before you buy a new steering stem take yours off and check it out and see what you can find. Hope that advice helps a little.

JasonsBanshee
I'm leaning more and more toward a bent stem. My pro tapers and adapter risers are brand new so I'm going to say it's not them. the right side bar is 5/8" lower than the right.

LS1Inferno
my friend just had his bent on his YFZ and we just took it out and heated it and straightned it AND it was twisted too so we took a wrench to it while it was hot. also on the banshees the mount bar that comes up off ther frame is really tall and bends when you roll it too. if the stem is bent in one place like where the top mount is then you can straighten it if you want. we got his YFZ perfect. the strange thing is it was enought to bend the stem like 25 dergees and didnt bent the handle bars AT ALL. i wish they would have bent they are cheaper.. and ive straightened bars before too. That's what worries me with my new bars. I bought the contour pro tapers that have an 1 1/8" diameter where it mounts. These will be HARD to bend. You know, now that you mention twisting, I bet I twisted mine too. When I go straight it's like I have to turn the bars a little to keep it straight. It's almost like it's out of alignment if that makes any sense. I'm going to pull the stem, It's gotta be screwed. Here's the new bars. Check out the first pic. You can see how the left side (right side if you're on the bike) is sagging compared to the right.
dragbanshee
You can definately see it, that sucks!
JasonsBanshee
You can definately see it, that sucks! So you think it's the stem by looking at it? I don't care to buy a new one, what sucks it's not knowing exactly what the problem is.
fastbanshee8
Be sure to check the tabs on the upper a-arms also, as they are a weak point also. I tweaked one a little bit, and I had to turn the bars a little bit, to keep it in a straight line.
LS1Inferno
if it hit the bars the stem is bent for sure its bent back and to the right. sooo you get a torch, vise, welding gloves, a wrench, ans some help and straighten that shit. jsutt let it cool by itself DO NOT cool it with water it will make it brittle. AKheathen
look on the bright side- my frame is bent up there and my plastics/tank don't line up, bu my bars are great
Wiz
make sure you check the upper frame hoop where the stem mouts, that is prone to bending and cracking it is hard to measure to get a feel of it is bent, you can make sure the tank is lined up with the mounting holes where the bolts mount the tand and try and use the tank as a refrence in the front of the frame is closer to the tank on one side vs. the other...I am replacing a frame on a bike now that had that upper hoop bar broke and was re-welded...
