NO spark

I hope someone can point me in the right direction!! Where do I begin trouble shooting. The only way I can start my bike is with a pull or push start. it will not fire using the kick start. I took out both plugs to check for fire and can not see the plugs spark at all. I did a compression check and I'm at 145-150lbs on each cylinder. However, she fires up instantly when bump started. Is it possible to have a weak coil or bad ignition? Any suggestions would greatly help.

You checked your pick-up gap yet?

Thats where I would start..

I had the same problem before.

It was the stator. Not spinning fast enough to deliver enough power

for strong spark when kicking but fast enough when pull starting.

Check all the stuff the others have suggested first. If all that is good

I'd be looking at the stator.

does it run fine once its started by push or pull??

have you pulled a plug out and checked to see if you have weak spark? plugs good, not fouled?

Yes, it runs pretty darn good, however there is a bit of a miss/stumble at the highest RPM of each gear. I thought this might be a jetting issue.

Plugs were pulled and I started with new ones.

could be a weak coil not giving enough spark

You might be on to something. I did go thru the clymer manual to test the coil and ended up getting a ohm reading out of range for the secondary to secondary measurement, and no reading at all for the secondary to primary measurement.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Brian, looks like I have a laundry list of things to check out, including the stator. Do you know if there is a higher output stator available?
