98_shee
Could be an air leak making it backfire, check your intake boots for cracks, you may want to do a leak down test on it.

2001Stroker
Stick a stethoscope on it. If you don't have one, use a long 3/8" socket extension, and stick it in your ear. Put it all over the motor until you find it. My motor started making a loud knocking noise, when the engine was fresh. Mine is coming from the intake. Not the carbs, reeds, lower end, or top end, but the intake manifold. I ride the piss out of it like that. Can't figure out why it does that. 98_shee
I also had one knocking, like stroker is saying and rod it with no problems. Do what stroker is saying and find where it is coming from.

dt200532
Ok thanks for the info ill try that thanks, let you know what i findit almost sounds like its coming from water pump area ok i went and did what you said cant figure out where its coming from, but when it starts has more pressure coming out of leftside of motor, changed plug got a little better but still knocking, and stalls right away wher you let off the throttle any suggestions? 2001Stroker
If it's knocking on the water pump side, and you think more backpressure is coming out of the exhaust on the right, something probably happened to the left side. Do a compression test. Might be time for a top end.
RUDEDAWG
You might wanna take the header pipe off of the left side and look inside of it. I just went through the same thing and it was a wrist pin bearing i had needle bearings all inside my pipe. I wouldnt recommend running it at all untill you figure out where the knocking noise is comming from Just my 02. dt200532
Also do you think the popping and backfiring out of that side could be a bad set of reeds, getting raw gas out of water pump side exhaust, got a new set of reeds from fouledout but cant remember what brand he said they were so i can replace the pedals
