cleanned my filters, now it runs rich

Recommended Posts

hey fellas. well just like the title says, i cleaned and oiled my k&n pods about a week ago and its been running really rich on the left side since then. it takes like 20-25 kicks to get it started and then it bogs really bad when riding. the left pipe is cold like its not even firing. i did ride it around my yard one time and revved it wot and the pipe warmed up so i know its not a spark issue.

the filters were very dirty so cleaning them should make it run leaner if anything right? any help would be appreciated. thanks.

mods are:

stock carbs

290 mains

30 pilots

needle on 4th clip (second from bottom)

k&n pods

4mill crank with spacer plate (stock port)

pro circuit pipes

boyesen reeds

Yeah your filters are either still wet or you over oiled them. It's a very easy and common mistake. Blow them out with compressed air real good.

i agree BUT

do it over (reclean them!! let them air dry for a few hours , very lightly oil them .. (you might not even have to)

this is what i do !!

wet the filters, spay the k&n cleaner on the filter, let it sit for about 20 mins

rinse from the inside out using warm/ hot water. repeat again if dirty

alow to air dry only , (never use forced air to dry it , it will destroys the material)

start it with no filter if you wanna see if its effecting the start!

too much oil or dirt will result in pulling more fuel (rich)

no filter or clean filter (lean)

this is the first time ive cleaned the filters since ive had them so i thought that i mightve over oiled them, so i cleaned em again and put no oil on em this time. still the same result. its dark now but tomorrow ill try it briefly with no filters.

when you say it running rich ? what do you mean , does it feel like the choke is stuck?

yeah thats the one, bummer! i had the cold pipe on the left side last weekend trying to get my banshee going and that was my problem... im not sure man, it just sounded exactly what mine was doing

yeah this thing is kickin my butt! ive tried all of the simple stuff that i know of. the only other thing i can think is to take the filters off and rule out the filter itself like INFINITIED said.

could it be that i flooded it really bad and it just has to burn all the gas out? i re synced my carbs while i had the filters off with the gas on so im sure it flooded it. but you would think that it wouldve burnt it out after a week.

On a CV carb you won't flood the cylinders by opening the throttle with the gas on.

The motor has to be spinning to create airflow thru the carb to pull the fuel out of

the carb.
