1996dragshee
how to fix this thing? tearing down the motor and change the gasket? what you think about the oil? looks like a base gasket leak like doc said..and that oil should be changed too man... it's an easy fix.pull the front plastics and tank off, clamp the rad hoses with vise grips or just drain everything and refill, drain the cylinders (little 10 milimeter bolts on the outside of each cylinder),pull the intakes carbs and reeds, pull the head, pull the cylinders, replace the gaskets and assemble back together. remember to scrape any old gasket off the case and cylinder surfaces.good luck
OKCterror
IMO, i used loctite insta gasket as a gasket. It holds up better IMO. But the gask is cheap as well.
BellicoseBanshee
what do you think? I think you should pull the exhaust and inspect the o-ring (or make sure it is there). A leaky exhaust flange is a notorious problem 250R guys have, and that is almost exactly what it looks like when the flange is not sealed... Looks to me like it is leaking where the exhaust pipe connects to the cylinder. EDIT: Do a leakdown test before you pull everything apart... tgbanshee
If you do find out that it was the base gasket that was leaking, you can can put a very thin coating of Threebond 1211 on both sides of the gasket as added insurance. This stuff works great, I used it on my spacer plate 4mil motor over a year ago and have yet to get any leaks. Your local Yamaha dealer might have it and Jeff at F.A.S.T. sells it. firebanshee
Hello there... i need your help guys.. i found an oil under my banshee motor today, i taked some pictures of the leaking sounds like its my clyinder gasket ... its black burned oil just like the gear oil! check the pictures what do you think? Like stated early i think it is a pipe flange sealing problem.I had a cylinder that got a groove wore in it were the oring would seal from the pipe moving around.Do you have missing or weak springs? That burned oil looks like burned pre mix oil. There is no way gear oil can leak our of your base gaskets and since the oil looks burned it more than likley is coming from the exhaust.
