Going from sea level to 5000ft ?

NEVER ENOUGH

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a shee, my first ever, very impressed so far. I live in Seattle. I ride the Oregon dunes most the time, the Quad runs great at sea level.

We are planning a trip to Little Sarah sand dunes (Sand Mountain) Utah. We will be there Thanksgiving week the weather will be 20*-60* thee elevation is around 5000ft.

The quad has high compression (shaved head), no air box, boyson reeds/spacers, advanced timing, T5's, port and polish work (no idea what kind) Stock stroke/bore. I think this is about it???

What do you think I will need to change to keep her running right?

Thanks,

Zach

the less air you have the less fuel you need to be entering your bike so you are going to lean it out check your jets and go 2 to 3 sizes to be safe and plug check it after you run it there you may need to lean it out more...I ride only the oregon coast dunes and have it jetted for over there and it only runs a little fat at the 3500 feet i live in.

290 mains

stock needles 3rd clip

stock pilot

1.5 turns out on screws

Should get you real close, bring 280-310 jets and you should be in good shape...kinda depends on your porting. With your shaved head at our elevation you will likely be able to get away with pump gas.

I may be backasswards but when I go to 4500ft elevation(Sand Mt, Nv) I put in a bigger main....on my '99(mods in sig) I go from a 310 main(at 200ft elev.) to a 340 main at 4500 ft elev....I've been told on here that less needs more fuel....I forgot to swap jets before I headed out and the shee ran like shit it would npt do anything after I got her started(and that took a lot of kicking) Then I relaized what I didn;t do...after the jet swap it ran strong as hell....Fast500#12 has ridden it and said it runs real strong for a non-ported motor.
