05.Banshee.SE
My bike is starting to look like hell from trail riding... How can I get my shine back? The plastics are kinda dull now, have dull scratch marks, etc. What products do you guys use? I was told to buff it, then clear coat them. 2001Stroker
The only way you're gonna get rid of scratches, buy new plastic and don't ride in the trails anymore. If you're trail riding, I wouldn't worry about scratches. They add character.

They don't come with much clear coat from the factory anyways.
jamebo
I've never used this, but heard it works well from an ATV magazine. Just a suggestion. http://www.properautocare.com/plreformoat.htmlVisit My Website
05.Banshee.SE
Thanks Jamebo...maybe I'll order it and try it. I tried this stuff from a local store, I'll have to get the name of it when I find it...but it absolutely sucked and probably made my plastics look worse (I tried it on a small unnoticable portion first.) But that is a cheap fix, if it works. Keep us updated if you buy it.

Hm...what do you think'll happen if I have them clear coated after they are buffed?

sangheraent
i went through this same situation. I just gave up after time and bought a bottle of armor all trim spray from the local hardware store. I had pretty much given up the only thing that worked was painting them but that was a huge pain in the ass. but armor all made all my bikes shine I have a 91 honda trx that looks like its 2 or 3 years old this bitch was scratched up baddd. this is a picture of my yfz its been rolled several times and needs new plastic but after a 2min wipe down with armor all it looks like new. if the bike gets dirty you have to re apply but it takes 2 seconds i just do it when the bikes still wet works good. it costs like 6bucks. I had to resize the picture cuz it was huge so my bike looks to skinny but you get the point.

I used the plastic renew kit on mine and was quite happy with the results as well.. As long as the scratches arn't real deep or gouges then you can get them out or atleast make them much less noticeable.. I had some healthy scratches in my plastics but used the kit and they turned out nice.. The kit as I remember(been a couple years) comes with several different grits of sand paper and then the "coating" stuff for the shine.. It took me a while with the sanding as you gotta do the usual "step down" methoud but like I said depending on the depth of the scratches will obviously determine how long your gonna be workin it.. Then after all that is done it tells you how to apply the stuff they give.. Before running off and buy new plastics I would atleast give it a shot.. As I remember the kit was like 15-20 bucks.. Also if you have any white areas from the plastic being bent a heat gun is the best way I have found to take those out.. Just make sure you don't get it TO hot.. Keyser Soze
If your ride a lot of trails you will have a lot of scatches. Some products may work to restore but they will just get scratched up again? Ive given on keeping my plastics looking good. Not a whole lot of sand in Indiana
98_shee
The plastic renew work great, i done mine about 6 months ago and it still looks good.
2001Stroker
This is simply not true.. I was just being a smartass. Don't take it so personal. I've buffed out plenty of scratches in my plastic. There just ain't no point in doing it, if all you do is ride trails. That's why I quit worrying about it. I go in the woods too much to sweat it. I didn't see anything in your entire post that signified you were joking. I have just seen alot of people lately saying stuff that isn't accurate.. I understand that SOME feel that because the plastics will get scratched up again they shouldn't do what they can to keep them nice or restore them.. However if you hold that mindset then why change the oil on a car if its just gonna need it again lol< (joke) But seriously my bike gets beat up and will again and again, but I still try to keep it nice or repair it..
