Compression tester

Recommended Posts

I don't know anything about the Matco, but I purchased one of the Craftsman's awhile back and I'm very satisfied with it. Very good quality. IMO it was well worth the price.

Where did you buy the craftsman, do you have a website were I can buy it from, If I may ask, what did you pay for it? I am not in the US, but want to buy online... Thank You

um....they come from Sears. That's crazy that Matco is cheaper than Craftsman. It's usually the other way around. If the Matco is cheaper, I would go with that one. Anything Matco is usually top notch. Personally, I like Matco. Most of my tools are from them. They have pretty much the same warranty asCraftsman, but the only downfall is you have to find a truck. If you work or live close to a mechanic shop, I guess it shouldn't be a problem finding one.

They sell them at Sears department stores. I paid around 60 dollars for mine. Here is a link, but I'm not sure about shipping. From what I saw on it it is order and then pick up at the store. If interested you could contact them about it for possible shipping. The kit I have is the one at the top.

SEARS

From what 2001Stroker says the Matco's are a good option, also.

Well I tested my banshee with 18cc domes in it, and it said it had 145 psi compression on one, and 150 psi in the other. I took my certified mac tester and rechecked it, got 185 psi on the mac. I had the matco guy replace my gauge, and it still read 145 psi on the new gauge.

Cornwell and star products sells a ''master'' Compression tester kit, which is the exactly the same thing and also the same as the one Matco kit... There is no difference between them..

i have used craftsman on many of my vehicles but nvr on a bike and so far it is as accurate as i have ever needed but both should be good and are credible brands so either should be worth the money. i do agree that it is crazy that the matco is cheaper. craftsman is prolly more convenient since u can pick it up at sears and all warranty prblems can be resolved at sears as well.

I was an Audi and a Saab Technician for 8.5 years. I wouldn't trust the Matco or Craftsman compression tester as even close to being a viable piece of equipment. He is right about the craftsman, it does some weird stuff at higher compression readings. My Mac one is the only one I will use.
