anyones kid race mx.

not sure, but this is what i would do. depending on how old the little guy is, id get him into bmx first and see what kind of talent hes got. if hes good, get him a little 4 stroker (they dont make new 2 strokes right?) and look into mx schools.

he's 4 going on 5. This little guy has a little bike and he is good on that thing. he's even jumping little ramps and trying to pop wheelies. the new ktm and cobra kings are 2 stroke but they are high dollar. honda makes a 50 but it is 4 stroke. i was thinking a chinese one and then i could see if he is gonna be scared of the thing or not, but not sure?

Find a PW 50. Good little bikes and they never changed so any year will work. Most districts now have 2 classes for the 50's, one for shaft drive and one for chain drive. If you do get a PW take out the oil pump, cut out the silincer baffle, and unplug the rev limiter and the little thing will pull a 150 pound guy around. Also I think harescrambles are the way to go. HS will give him the basic skills you need in a race forum and if he can do an hour race he should be able to do a 15 minute moto. Also HS you dont need a top dollar bike to compete. You could have a stock bike and still beat full race bikes. Let him do a couple HS then go to a motocross. Most times the 50 class isnt going and doing doubles and stuff. If a motocross school is around that would be a good idea too. Start him early so he dosnt get any bad habits. Where are you from anyway? Check out the AMA district near you and maybe go to a race and just walk around the pits, talk to some people.

a pw50 is a great bike for a beginner, but if he's plans on jumping i would go for something more modern as the suspension is crap

the front forks don't even contain oil, just a spring in a tube!

also drum brakes

my nephew started out on one but as soon as he started doing jumps we had to upgrade him to a ktm 50sx which has a lot more suspension travel, mono shock rear, more power and is the same weight

he has only just turned 5 also

+1 to that. PW are cheap and if he dosnt like it its not a big lose.

thanks for the help. I we'll go with the pw and see how he likes it or how he does then well see about the more expensive ones.

Bingo!

For a kid that is undecided the PW is the way to go. once they are into riding then drop the money of a KTM. you can pickup a used PW50 for near nothing. hell a brand new one of last years modle is only like 750 bucks
