Help in Selecting a good pair of Front Shocks

I just purchased +2 +1 ASR A Arms and am in the market for a shock that would work well for both the Sand Dunes of Glamis and the Trails of Baja. I dont like tweaking stuff too much however I do need a shock that will compliment both scenarios any suggestions? I also have a +4 swingarm that I want to shorten due to the fact that I want to have more maneuverability on turns, would a +2 suit me better in the desert and the dunes?

first decide how much cash you wana spend.. because it can get expensive quick

a banshee is already a longer wheelbase quad than most the new ones, your swingarm should depend on your motor and of course what kind of riding you wana do with it, of course shorter is easier to throw around and will turn better

Thanks for the quick response Mike, I want to spend around a grand or less for the front shocks. The style of riding I mostly do is duning and we will be heading up to San Felipe this spring to do some riding on the Baja trails. The motor needs a refreshing I had the guys from CT racing port my banshee 7 seasons ago and it still runs great.

I have ridden both Works fully adjustable and Elka Dune Editions, and I like Works much better in the sand. As for PeP or Axis, that might be a bit much as well since they are really intended for MX more than anything. Choice is yours really. I also recommend getting a rear shock to compliment the fronts. The stocker is okay, but a better rear will really help reduce rear end swapping and provide better adjustments.

i say put the +2 swinger on, get works shocks that are set up for your weight and send out your rear shock to be set up for your weight and the +2 swinger. that all will run you about 1200 to about 1600 including a new roundhouse swinger and carrier.

I havent ridden in sand much but in the woods/fields ive ridden on quite a few different setups. Ive always liked axis and tcs and works the best.

 

I agree on getting the rear done also makes all the difference.

 

By the way anyone here have a gt thunder rebuild rear? Just curious how they perform on thegeometry of the banshee. I had laz do my raptor and wifes 400 rear shocks and couldnt be happier

How does that rear shock setup with linkage from Elka compare to a Works Rear shock with stock Dogbone? Thanks for all the feedback!

sense you have the front and the rear. I would do the front first and see if you like how it turns with the swinger. I would lookin for a shock that has a dual or better a triple rate springs. The compression adj and the rebound is a great thing for a shock and for tuning them into the areas of riding. it is really easy to ride alittle bit and see if you want it softer or harder. I say do the front first due to the fact that my turning was better when i put my 2+1's on and love the way it handles and i put a +4 axle on the back. but like how MJ said. your motor will say how long of a swinger and what kind of riding your doing. If you not racing alot i would say the +2 but sense its +4 already just leave it and try it. I can tune my elka's in about 10mins of riding but im always changing them depending on how fast and how hard we ride the dunes and trails. I didnt like the idea of always changing the compression and rebound but once your read and figure it out you will wonder why you didnt do it sooner!

you also might want to look into a steering stabilizers. I can ride so much longer and you dont get the damn arm pump when you hit rocks and tracks of other quads and rail.

Thanks 8) I am very thankful for all your input. I have spoken with works and Elka. Elka is recommending Dune Edition shocks with the shock and linkage in the rear. Works is recommending Black Widow Fronts and the Ultra Pro G4 rear. Elka out the door 3 shocks and linkage 2100 with shock covers/Works shocks front and rear 1995. What do I do !?!?!??!

 

The only advantage I see is works is just down the street and Elka is in Canada.

dont buy from the company and buy from a dealer. But as for the elka dunes are great in the dunes but i woundnt ride them in the baja side of riding. they are vavled and springed just for the dunes and not really dual purpose. Thats why i say try to find a dual/triple rate spring shock. And the elka linkage adds travel so i would if i could go with the elka rear end set up.
