278
OK so I went to an auto parts store to get what I needed to put my motor back together (assembly lube, thread lock, silicone gasket maker for the case halves) and when I asked them about o-ring lube they said they had never heard of it and I explained it and they said new o-rings shouldnt need it, so my question is do you need o-ring lube to install a cool head and if so is there something else you can use? BellicoseBanshee
Do you need o-ring lube to install a cool head and if so is there something else you can use? Use a thin layer of grease to hold the o-rings in place during installation...
Wildcardracing
You can use grease or vasoline to hold the o-rings in the grooves, but it's not absolutely neccisary. Only purpose it serves is to keep your o-rings from falling out when the head is being placed on the cylinders. As far as the silicone goes, I wouldn't recommend using regular RTV silicone. You need to use a semi-drying sealant such as three-bond 1197 or equivelant.
