hercalmighty
You like the Honda alumium frames? I rode some of the early models and they are rough as hell. The frames dont flex at all. Now my YZ125 with the alumium frame feels just like a steel frame but about 20 pounds lighter.

Ive ridden a lot of other stuff, but wasn't crazy about them, Ive been dying to get back on a CR250. A guy near me has a sweet ass CR500 for sale, cheap too, but I'm npo sure about that for a trail bike.
hercalmighty
I had 2 CR125's and loved them. They were 1990's though so a little older then your looking for. Anyways whats wrong with a CR500 in the woods? Honestly I think a 500 would do better then a shee. 500's at least have a bottom end. Did you like the honda alumium frames? Like I said I thought they were a little harsh. Plus Honda's have alot of head shake. Love Honda's but love my Yamaha's just a little more. I never rode a 500 in the woods, and I'm not a big dirt biker, but the 250s I had were a handful. I'm only 5'6" and like 140lbs, so I could barely stand the bike up. I have 0 trouble with my Banshee now that its setup for woods though. Either way, I'm open, really Ill take any newer 250 for the right price and in good shape. Did you ever get those carbs setup? If not lemme know, I'll buy them back from ya, I really miss them on my bike, and I think I was damn close setting them up. Jay
hercalmighty
Dude I'm there with you on the height. I'm 5'6" too and I'm mostly a dirt biker. You should have seen me try to start my YZ426F! The carbs seem to be spot on. I jumped up to a 160 main I think. I didnt realize I needed to loss the airbox lid for the carbs. I'm surprised you want to go with a 250 not a 125. Now I weigh about 190 and my 125 keeps up or bets any of the 250"s I come up on.

The only reason I want a 250 is we do a lot of tight trails, logging roads, powerline cuts and fields, so every once in a while I will open the bike up and it would be nice to have some more top end too. Do the 125s have powervalves? Thats one of the big reasons Ive always like the CR250s, the PV gives them some nasty low end grunt.
hercalmighty
Yeah they have PV. I put a FMF Fatty pipe and a Shorty Silincer on my YZ125 and it rips. Out of all the 125's the YZ has the most linear powerband. It's got a good bottom to top curve. Me I've always been a 125 rider. I like to pin it and feather the clutch. My YZ isnt quit as fast as my shee on top but its not far off. Plus I dont know too many places that I can get 6th gear flat out. If you lived closer I'd let you take mine out and see what you think. LiftdT4R
Thanks for the offer, if I was closer Id take you up on it. I picked up an 02 YZ250 tonight in decent shape, that I'm going to rip this weekend, we'll se how it turns out, if I don't like it, Ill ditch it.
