How I made my Banshee 45lbs lighter

Recommended Posts

I read somewhere that 7lbs removed is about the same as adding 1hp. So, i dont know if this actually true, it may have been someone blowing smoke up my ass, but it seems true. I am a little guy, 5'8 160 and I seem to kill other people that have similar mods. When we go to the dunes, my bro will let me ride his bike if he cant beat someone when he is on it, he is 6'0 and 200ish. It makes a BIG difference, if the race was close with him on it, I will usually pull 2-3 bikes on them when I am on his.

That is true when it comes to rotating mass. But not with overall weight. So for example, cutting 14 pounds off of your frame will not get you 2 more HP. But Going from a stock axle with heavy rims and tires to a aluminum drag axle with SLS paddles will definitely get you closer! Weight is a big factor when racing, especially hill shooting. Having to not only move that weight, but now have to pull it up hill can make a huge diiference. But heavier guys/bikes usually get more traction as well.....so you have to be able to find a happy balance between to two!

That is a fact! I noticed a few years ago, after turning 30, that I needed to make a few dietary changes. It sucked at first, but man I am glad I did. I kinda beat my body to the punch, . It is not easy to lose and maintain, you guys should be proud, it is quite an accomplishment!

Yeah, I am 33 and noticed things changing. I lost my father to diabetes a few years back and I want avoid that @ all cost.....I stopped eating a 16oz steak once a week, or entire large pizza in a sitting, no more double 1lb cheese burger for lunch then come home and eat another full plate of food. No more buffets thats for sure. I try to keep it low fat, and lean meat. No sodas, only water, and snacks through out the enire day. My kid is 7 now, so thats my work out for the day. He keep me runnin.

Good job man, keep going! I can tell you first hand that rider weight makes a hell of a difference. Short story: I jumped on my buddies 400ex and raced another kid riding a kfx 400 that weighs 135lbs soaking wet. I weigh 215 probably 225 with gear, anyway he passed me like I was standing still when we got to top end. We switched bikes on the way back and it was the exact same story. once we hit 5th gear, he just kept going. It was about a hundred pound difference, but the results were quite surprising.

That awesome guys. Im 28 and between the ages of 24-27 i had gained about 50 lbs. I was about 195 and not doing so good considering that im in the military (USAF) Anyway, i deployed for 120 days to Afghanistan and in that 4 months i dropped 45 lbs. I tell ya it was NOT easy. I was running 7 miles a night 6 nights a week on the treadmill and weight training. The other big step was modifying my eating habits. I used to drink a couple Mt. Dews a day and never paid attention to anything i ate. Now i drink water and iced/green teas and NEVER eat until im full. I have kept the 45 lbs off, and maintained that for over a year now! Also, i noticed while riding everything was so much easier to do, and i didnt tire nearly as quickly. I also quit smoking and that made a huge difference in stamina as well. Keep up the good work guys. Its better for you in every way to keep a healthy lifestyle!
