joeduno
Well as the subject says, I'm new in this ATV world, and looking for some suggestions. I have a banshee with a GSXR 600 motor in it. I'm looking to upgrade my suspension for a couple of reasons: 1: I'm a big boy 250lbs, plus I'm sure the 600 engine is heavier than a stock engine. 2: With the motorcycle exhaust on the engine, and a low oil pan, I'd like more than 3 inches of ground clearance. While test driving my shee after putting in a new clutch, I scrapped the exhaust while going up the curb into my old mans driveway!! 3: I'm pretty sure my rear shock is blown out. When I push down on the back, the bike won't come back up. It does come up a little when I get off, but only about 2 inches. (wow, that line sounds kinda dirty) I read about the YFZ450 shocks up front, and from what I understand that will raise the front end, but what should I do for the rear? Thanks, Joe
desertdeweller
considering your weight and the weight of the motor you maybe better off going with aftermarket shocks. That way you can have them built according to the your weight. yfz shocks are longer than the banshees which will help some but the spring rate and valving won`t be much better. How much does your bike sag from full extension to with you sitting on it. unfortunately there is not a whole lot you can do for the banshee to get a lot of height. I don`t know if going to some +3 a arms would help you in the height department any. maybe some taller tires could help you out also. I am going to put a raptor rear shock on mine that someone else suggested to do on here. it is about an inch longer I am also putting a little longer swinger on that will raise the back some. but all in all I think new shocks up front a rebuilt or new rear all with spring rates and valving set for your needs and maybe tires are about it. joeduno
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a few weeks to really figure out what I'm going to do. I just dropped my shee off at a friends house where he's going to re-do alot of the frame modification, and make me a gas tank. He said it's going to take him about 4 to 6 weeks to get it all done, after going over the frame there was alot of work needed. Oh well, guess it's better to find out now, then when I'm out riding.
