official_style
on a brand new 450, do you have to really drive slow for the first 20 hours and all that crap? when i bought my mustang brand new i beat the shit out of it right away with 3 miles on the odo, and it actually always puts down more power than my friends who has the same mods on the dyno. and i always smoke his ass lol. but with the quad, is it ok to do the same thing? i want to run my friend who just bought the 450, but now he is all scared he has to break the motor in. For bikes and cars I'll let it warm up really well. Baby it for about 15 min and then WOT. I think you've got to break it in by showing it how it should run. The only think I wouldn't reccomend is running it at a constant RPM and speed for any stretch. Don't forget to change the oil after its first stress run. onebanshee
I had a buddy that would break his stuff in just like he rode it. He was a crazy kid and never took it easy on stuff. He usually had one of the faster bikes, and I started to break my stuff in like him and have had no problems. When i bought my 07 LTR450 I took it to the track and took a few easy laps and then just got on it WOT. And now when i go to the dunes or wherever, I can usually take any LTR that has same or similar mods. And of course i kill everything else.... Tell him to not be a pussy and go for it... However, my quad really did not "wake up" till about 15-20 hours were put on. So, its not gonna be a real race till he is properly broke in. Don't forget to change the oil after its first stress run. That's how I broke in my YFZs and Raptor. Had problems with a YFZ, but it was not due to the break in. Don't expect it to run great for a while, for whatever reason...even though the rings should be seated rather quickly as hot as those damn things get.
